Some nursing homes have apartments on their property.

My friend is in a nursing facility. There is an apartment building there that sells apartments to seniors. They offer one or two bedrooms and they are very nice. The lobby has a receptionist and the residents can take advantage of some of the services offered at the facility, such as worship services if they wish.

I was surprised this even existed. I noticed it when I visited my friend there and the front parking lot was restricted to residents only. Huh? Residents in a nursing home who drive cars? So, I inquired.

I have met some of the people who live there, because I am there often. They are active seniors and are happy with their living conditions.

I am exploring housing for senior citizens. I have done several searches in my city, but there seems to be a category missing for senior citizens who want to sell their home to avoid having to maintain it. Perhaps larger cities have active adult apartment communities. Everything here goes straight to assisted living.

We do not require meals, or in-house hairdressers, or a plethora of planned activities. We would like to have a comfortable apartment where there are no college students or young families. Is there such a place? Am I using the wrong search wording? We may need to relocate?

The website 55plus dot com might help depending on where you are located. If, by chance, you are in Washington, look at SHAG apartments.

Try 55+ or 62+ apartments. In my area the nicest senior apartments are income-restricted. The new non-income restricted senior apartments are too small and overpriced. Look for communities/buildings that are "defacto" senior -- over 75% senior. Better prices, more square footage.

Honestly, with where things are headed, I think people need to start having conversations with their families and the need to share housing and start planning for it. Affordable housing for younger couples is a challenge in places and the older set could benefit from the companionship and a bit of help as they age.

This is an ongoing problem in PA. It seems as though we go through life and don't even think about what we are going to do when we can't or don't want to keep our home.

In our area there are several continuing care places. You go in as independent living, then assisted living and nursing home. They are really nice. But, they are expensive. There does not seem to be any middle of the road housing for older people.

You can look into the over 55+ plus housing. That may be a good choice for you. Good luck.

Many lovely 55+ apartment communities have been built in my area of Wisconsin in the last few years. I attended a grand opening tour through one of them before the pandemic. The buildings are nicely appointed with elevators, underground parking, in-apartment washer/dryer, and on-site management. The monthly rate was $1,800-$2,400 depending on the number of bedrooms. Although I could not afford to live there for very long, it was a very desirable environment.

Townhouses and apartments are going up in the Atlanta and surrounding Cities. They are new so people are trying to get in. Some of the rooms are small. Right now the going rate is $867 a month and it's about 720 sq feet for a one bedroom apartment.

The town houses are two stories and some people prefer those.

You have to apply even before they are built, they interview you and let you know if you qualify. They go so fast but they keep building.
