Could you?

After watching numerouis presentations on a pot yesterday and socks thiis am, and no I did not watch all day, I decided I could never be a host. I would be very brief.. I remember years ago either Kathy Levine or Dan who said when auditioned they were handed a pencil and told to talk about it for 15 or 20 minutes. As Kathy would say that was a hoot!

Now imagine doing it about a vacuum or that silly looking Dyson fan gimmick.!!!

I noticed the QVC host and the vendor repeat what each other has just said, to stretch the conversation....

But it has to be trying....just take a pot out of your cupboard, stand in front of the table it's on, and talk about it for 10 minutes, much less an hour. How often can you describe the color, interior, ability, softness, hardness, scent etc etc etc about ANY item!!!

I wonder what the QVC Hosts are like when they get home and prepare dinner for the family...

Let's look in and listen as "the imaginary family" is called to the table...

"Dinner!!!....Tonight we're having these succulent"reserve" beef filets...aged for 28 days from cows raised on a special farm....look how juicy!! ( squeezing the meat with a fork)..how tender...eight in a package, but I cut them in half to make 16 servings!!!

We'll have a choice of two sides....mashed potatoes and spinach OR mashed potatoes and stuffing ( depending where you come from!!!) How creamy! How tasty!!!

We'll be eating tonight on a runner made of beads, made for Centertaining, and we'll be using our Winter Whimsy everyday plates and Lenox 18/10 silverware that will keep shining over 100 dishwasher uses!!! The cups hold 16 oz's, and the soup bowls are only available for one more showing, er, meal....

For dessert....Individual servings of creamy, moist Jr's CHeesecakes ( only 20 dollars a serving...but hey, I didn't pay the mortgage this month!!!).....OR, you can have a dozen ( of FOURTEEN DOZEN !!!) David's Cookies...you can bake off one cookie, five cookies or a dozen cookies or ALL of them for all I care,and if you have a Cookie Exchange with the people who barely know you down at the grocery store or the guy who pumps your gas, you're all set!!! Don't forget the powdered sugar...which you apply AFTER the cookies cool!!!"

By now, we notice the "Family" has left for McDonald's where they can eat thier prepared glop in bless-ed silence, served in a greasy wrapper, a styrofoam box, on a dirty plastic table. Which no one even notices!!!

I could wax eloquent about that Le Creuset dutch oven that has been featured as a special value since yesterday.

For me, it will be perfect for side dishes (veggies) and smaller stew-like meals. There is something about Le Creuset cookware that enhances the taste of whatever I'm cooking. No, I do not have any stock in the company. It's just that I truly value the brand.

I'm surprised that this item did not sell out.

No, I have absolutely no desire to be a host.

I only watch certain "fashion" shows.

There's no way I could stand up there and sell that stuff, or have to work with certain vendors.

I would refuse to jiggle the clothes and stretch the fabrics.

I wouldn't wear high heel shoes with pants or put shoes on my bare feet.

I wouldn't change my clothes every few minutes, nor claim that clothes were fresh or chic and you would look amazing wearing them.

Some of the hosts sound absolutely frantic - like their lives depended on you purchasing THIS item RIGHT NOW.

I think the TSV's are always overkill. They had it on for an hour before and after ITKWD and how much time during that show. Each time it came on,I turned it off. I guess if you are really into cooking then you would appreciate all of the airings.

Maybe it is because they are worried about hitting sales figures in order to continue to provide for their families.

@Yeh but 20 minutes probably wasn't nearly long enough for her to talk about the pencil. She would have gone on about her family ancestry, her dancing days and multitude of other subjects related to her and her family and only vaguely to the pencil itself. Joseph Segel probably needed a stiff drink by the time she was done.

I like Jane. I've said it before and I'll say it again - a host who tells me nothing I can't figure out for myself from the website is a host I don't care to watch.

I prefer Jane to many of her co-hosts. I assume she sells to many of us and that's why she is still working onair often. I'd be quite happy if more hosts emulated her.

Carefully!!!*

If you REALLY want to know about lifting....look up Le Creuset "Goose Pot" (or 15.5 quart oval roaster with cast iron lid)...on You Tube, or on thier site..

You can take a bath in it, and a lot of people suggest you might need to reinforce the racks in your oven from below to hold it...

5-700 dollars depending on the website or Ebay!!!

* At least with Le Creuset pots, if and when you DO lift them or remove them from the oven, you needn't worry about them cracking in two with gallons of boiling food in them( like whenTemptations Tara used to bring out a 9x13 baker full of hot lasagna...if that thing ever decided to crack while she was bringing it to the display table, she'd need the burn unit...Temptations has a reputation for cracking in the oven.....I always held my breath when she did that on live TV.....)

@SeaMaiden I agree with you but....it seems to me these people just love being in front of the camera or they would choose a different path. Just watch how many of the hosts keep looking at themselves in the camera while on air. Sometimes there is ego involved in people that choose be in front of millions of people.

@mspemberley This is true and there is a clip of that audition somewhere out there-I saw it but it wasn't the whole 15-20 minutes.

I believe she felt she would not be a good at sales but her Mom encouraged her to try out.

This one is smaller and, I hope, lighter in weight. (I believe David alluded to this concern -- older population requested a lighter pot.)

Not blessed with upper-arm strength, I do huff and puff with my other, heavier Le Creuset cookware. The effort is worth it to me, though. This cookware is worthy of being passed down to a new generation, I believe.

One of the pieces I keep on top of the stove so that I do not have to keep heaving it up and out of a storage area.

The main reason I could never be a host or other salesperson is I could not pretend something was great that I wouldn't buy myself.
