More on my aunt.

My cousin just called me. I don't know if he was calling from the rehab place, but I think so. He just said my aunt is missing her engagement ring. He said she was wearing it when she got to the hospital yesterday. He's calling the hospital right now. Maybe it's the hospital, maybe it's the transportation company, many employees at the rehab place; but something isn't right. My counsins and my aunt were so tired yesterday they didn't even think about it. It had been my grandmother's ring.

The morning my mom died in the hospital, as soon as dad and I got to her room, I removed her two diamond solitaires and her diamond band. No way was I donating them to some hospital or morgue employee.

Another update.

I just spoke with my aunt. She's not confused today at all. She is in good spirits. She is at the rehab place and they let both my cousins in. My cousin called the hospital and they are looking for the ring. The hospital says they took her jewelry off for imaging.

my MIL's hearing aids went missing in the hospital.....who the heck wants someone else's hearing aids......

they are looking for the ring....if they took it off her finger.....they should have given it to a relative.....hope they 'find' it......glad she's feeling better....

I retired 8 years ago after 27 years of working in a hospital, and always remind my family to leave ALL jewelry at home!

Very rarely were items found. I remember 3 thefts where employees were identified and fired on the spot. I was shocked beyond words at who was involved in those thefts.

My experience with a ring made specifically for me, by 1 of my goalies that still designs rings for the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL. It had my team logo/year I started my league/my name/league name, and hockey stick.

When I went into the ER with my broken ribs and punctured lung, they did a CAT Scan. Took my ring off, then forgot it. Was put in as in- patient. Never remembered even wearing my ring, much less taking it off.

The 2 days later the CAT Scan Tech came up to my room and returned my ring. He was off the following day, but put it away and remembered me talking about it. He found out I was an in-patient, and what a relief.

It obviously is a very special ring, which I seldom wear when skating. Why I had it on that day, I have no idea. Not the same with your aunt's ring, just thought I would tell you my similar type of experience. There are good people out there.

@Mindy D I hope that the ring will turn up soon. IMO, there are many more honest people in the world than dishonest, so I think it will be found.

Before my mom entered a nursing home she had lost a lot of weight and her rings kept falling off. The CNAs who were helping to care for her were great and they let me know when they found them. I took her rings and gave her 2 Diamonique rings and she was happy with them. Usually when you are admitted to a hospital they say not to wear any jewelry. In the event that they have to do surgery you cannot wear any jewelry and the hospital I am sure does not want to be responsible for it.

Do not ever wear jewelry anyone cares about to a nursing home. It will be gone.

My mom wore a heavy gold bracelet and I didn't care whether it came back to us or not. A friend was horrified and took it off her, but I just wanted to her to enjoy it as long as possible. . . her happiness was worth more than the money. After a while it didn't matter to her any more.

But I do know one staff member had a pile of rings in her desk, so I don't know how that worked out.

If your aunt's ring was removed it would have been placed in a Manila envelope labeled with her name either where she was admitted at the hospital or at the rehab. Your cousin should check both places. Hospitals are almost always very good about this. Unfortunately it's also possible the ring fell off, in which case, the lost and found should be checked. Good luck! I sincerely hope the ring is found.

wish i thought the same about more honest people.....just can't trust anyone.....jmo....

My Dad had his wedding ring stolen from his finger at the nursing home. It was 20 carat gold.

He also had his hearing aids stolen. Once a year an audiologist and hearing aid person came to the nursing home and fitted him with a new hearing aid. Only to have it disappear again.

And then my 92 pound Mother had to have her wedding band cut off her finger in the hospital. I have no idea why. She was losing weight and might have even been in the 80's. I did get the wedding ring - in 3 pieces and missing a few diamonds.

@Mindy D sorry to hear about your Grandmother's ring. Hope they find it. Sad to lose a precious heirloom.

In 2013 my husband was in a place, he was just weeks from dying, he had a i pad my son got him, someone stole it while he was sleeping.

I hope they ask and not accuse.If your aunt is a little confused, you will want to question. I've seen this happen. I too hope this is figured out and she gets her ring back.

That sounds right, my hospital ask what jewelry you have, and do yu want it put in a safe. and you can't wear for alot of test.

I sure hope the ring is found!

My friend had her mother cremated...she came from an assisted living facility..she had her own apartment and died there. Fast forward to daughter picking up her mothers ashes and asked for a ring she knew her mom was wearing..Hmm, they claim they left it on her, (if true) why would they not call the family to make sure before the ring was left on the body?
