My Power is Back On!

After almost two days, my power has been restored. I live in Massachusetts (specifically Cape Cod). We had one hell of a storm from Tuesday evening into Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone else here from New England who suffered through the storm? And is your power restored?

Glad to see you got your power restored. Don't live in your state, but last spring we had a storm, and we lost power for 5 days. Our home is almost 100% electricity, and the worst part was all the food my wife lost in our freezers. She figured it was about $500-$600 completely lost.

Ours went out this last week too, but only 4 hours worth. Got down to 66 in here and glad it came back on when it did. We'd had rain, and lots of wind. They said cause of it was trees. So maybe you got what we had, only worse!!! No fun.

@JaneMarple : Hope that you are ok and no property damage. One year we were with out power for three days. The freezer in the laundry room was packed because we had just went to the commissary and loss about $400 in food. The house insurance deductible was $500.

Nothing worse than losing power. I’ve had several friends buy whole house generators recently which are very costly but I guess when the power goes out for several days it’s a good thing to have.

@JaneMarple I'm happy for you! I live in RI and we faired pretty well considering. Our wind gusts were up to 65mph but nothing like the Cape had, you people got hit really hard. Surprisingly we didn't lose our power, it only went out a few times for a minute and came back on. I had prepared for the worst because normally we lose power easily here, we're higher up on a big hill so it's windy everyday.

Glad you made it through okay other than the power loss. We have another nor'easter tomorrow.......baton down the hatches again! I hope this is not an indication of the upcoming winter. Be well, and I love Cape Cod, we've spent a lot of time out there over the years!

Yes, I live in Spfld. I'm glad your power is restored. I had read the Cape, Islands & coastal would get the worse of that storm. There were some towns from east to central MA that also suffered. We were fortunate to not experience the heavy winds, only about 16 - 30 mph. After reading about the power outages & other damage, my heart felt bad for all of you. I'm just glad it's not winter yet & you didn't have freezing temps to contend with as well. I hope you're all safe. Best of luck overcoming that storm.

Sorry to learn you also suffered through a bad storm & outage. Did you try to be compensated from your home insurance from the loss of your food? I ask because back in 2013 we had a "Halloween" ice storm & which many of us loss power from 3 - 7 days or more. It was freezing temps at the time as well, not good. Anyways, my sister & brother-in-law loss all their food as well & filed it with their home insurance & if I'm not mistaken, they were compensated around the $600 range. Just a thought to keep in mind if it happens again.

We live in northern Connecticut and were fortunate that the storm had little impact for us. Of course, we have endured bad storms in the past and can empathize. So glad you are ok now.

The Cape is such a beautiful place. My parents took us to the Cape growing up, and my DH and I spent many happy times with our children there. We went back in September for ten days, our first trip in two years. We love it all! If it weren’t for the fact our married children, and two GC, are in CT, we likely would have retired to the Cape. You are lucky to live there.

We had nasty weather and a thunderstorm that almost gave me a heart attack. It hit after I fell asleep. It sounded like an explosion. It rained a decent amount too.

We did not lose power though and I'm glad your power is now restored. I know, it's the pits have none. We lost our power for weeks with Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Ida just gushed three feet of water in our basement. Actually the whole town was three feet under water. One of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

Yes we lost power for exactly 18 hours, mostly daylight hours.. A huge oak tree crashed and split the utility pole 3 houses over.

had bottles of spring water leftover from Henri. No pump so no tap water no heat but DH being a good boy scout (always prepared) had saved water in empty laundry jugs (for the commode) before it got bad had got extra gas for the portable generator. he plugged in the fridge and coffee maker.

we live on a state road so power outages get addressed first but in order to restore the lines, the crews had to wait around for new pole, the tree service to remove the tree. that took hours hours and traffic was detoured.

this is the 3rd time with the same pole location and big trees. i don't make a good pioneer woman. fuuny, DH kept walking over to see the progress. guess he was bored

Hoping ours doesn't go out today/tonight. We have a coastal flood warning (So. Jersery), but are having high winds.

Wind gusts are supposed to be over 55 mph which can cause problems. We do have a gas powered generator and just bought new cords for connecting fridge and tankless hot water heater and whatever else.

House is warm, it's only going down to 60*, have lots of candles. But fingers crossed.
