Facebook has changed its name!

...and wil now be called "Meta". I have a FB account but never go there. I only check maybe 3 Xs a year just to see if anyone has interesting photos.

I wonder if the Q will be trying to get people to Meta and what this all means.

I think the parent company changed its name to Meta. It's products will still be called Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and God-knows-what-else. That's my understanding anyway.

None of the products are changing names. Just the parent company.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- An embattled Facebook Inc. is changing its name to Meta Platforms Inc., or Meta for short, to reflect what CEO Mark Zuckerberg says is its commitment to developing the new surround-yourself technology known as the “metaverse.” But the social network itself will still be called Facebook.

Goggle became Alphabet a few years ago. It didn't help them, and I don't think FB's name change will do anything particularly positive for them either. Maybe they had reason s that we don't know about. Who knows and who really cares?

NO interest in FB at all, never did!! Some find it necessary to put their entire life on there, my DH has a friend who posts all his medical records on there and his medical test results, then asks everyone to discuss the results with him, yikes!!!

As long as its "service" is necessary and important, it will exist no matter what it names itself.

I don't understand facebook at all, I had it for a minute years ago and got tired of people posting pictures of food they were eating, I remember people being on there all the time,lol posting everything they were doing, my question is why??? Oh well a lot of people enjoy it I am not one of them. I use to watch the show cat fish, and all of them met people on facebook, facebook is not a dating site lol

The term Metaverse was first coined by science-fiction author Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel Snow Crash.

Since there seems to be growing confusion on this: I have nothing to do with anything that FB is up to involving the Metaverse, other than the obvious fact that they're using a term I coined in Snow Crash. There has been zero communication between me and FB & no biz relationship..

I am someone who really enjoys Facebook. I've connected with old school friends (small town in Missouri where we knew each other basically our entire lives), friends I've lost touch with, and new friends.
