Did You Eliminate Your LANDLINE? Was It a Good Decision or Not?

Did you eliminate your landline? Was it a good decision or not?

My dh and I each have our cell phones, and Spectrum serves our landline which means in a power outage Spectrum wifi, TV and landline phone numbers don't function, BUT we have a generator so that we can charge our cell phones during a power outage.

Landline cost us almost $20.00 per month, by the way.

I just want to make sure that, heaven forbid, in an emergency I could always call for help.

Leaning toward giving the landline the boot, even though we've had it for decades.

Help me with this decision, PLEASE!

@Solar Is My Name We did eliminate it recently. But the only thing I have to admit I miss is that with the landline phones, we had one in just about every room in the house. It made it easy to pick up when it rings. Now with just a cellphone, I have to make sure I have it with me, especially if I am upstairs. Otherwise I have to run to answer it and that's even if I hear it ring if I'm in another part of the house without my cell. ☎

I am in hurricane country, and every time one plows through all my neighbors cell phones are down because they are tied to their cable bundle of cable, phone and internet. I pull out my "princess phone" and plug it into my landline. Voila

Then days later I am not looking for how to recharge my cell phone again, there is no "recharging a landline. I remember on 911 when all the cell phones were so tied up, my landline was working fine.

If I need to trim my budget that will be the last thing that gets trimmed.

I eliminated the landline but my cell phones are connected to the phone unit so when my cell rings the base unit rings so i don't have to run to answer it.

When we retired to Texas 2+ years ago, we decided to not have a landline. Don't miss it one bit. Our cell phones work well for all our needs. So...good decision for us.

For 20 dollars I would keep it. We've keep ours because we've had the same number for many years and thats the number our elderly family members have.

Also we had a very good coworker friend call to tell us his wife was ill with cancer and that was the only number he could find.

Keeping it. In a true emergency, I like that if I need to call911 my address and info pops up on the screen. If you are are on your cell phone, in a stressful situation, you may not be able to provide that information to the emergency personnel.

Plus, never need to worry about it not being charged.

We have a landline...I keep for emergencies...our cell phones not on all of the time but I know where my two landline phones are. One bedroom and one kitchen. I fine that when someone calls me from a cell phone they always disconnect or I can not understand one thing that they are saying. I will always have a landline.

When you have hurricanes you never know what lines you will have electric or phones.

My kids told me that one day landlines will be gone and by than I might be dead. I will worry about it when that happens.

We will never eliminate our landline. We grew up with one, and it is very familiar. That is the only phone number we give out to the public. We are still listed in the phone books with that number.

We have a few landlines in our house on different floors, but the phones are portable. The cost for unlimited calls is included with our cable and wifi.

Once someone has your cell phone, they can also text you. We reserve the cell phone number for friends and family.

We prefer our privacy.

I got rid of my landline about ten years ago and my only regret was that I waited so long. I kept it out of a misguided sense of "tradition", and because I have a fax machine. But keeping the landline was costing me several hundred $ yearly.

Nowadays I can communicate with tablets and cell phones. Between texts, email, and phone call, it's the phone call that still costs the most and I use calling for business, not personal chit chat.

I text a lot and a year of TracFone cell service, plus calls and several thousand texts costs me about $7.00 a month.

Yes. I did it a good long while ago. It's nice to not have a phone company bill. I have a pay as I go unlimited plan. I prefer to do it that way so I can switch carriers when I find a better deal.

There really isn't much difference. You just have to keep your phone charged and the ringer on at home during odd hours, for your most precious contacts at least, so they can reach you like they would on your land line.

Keeping the phone charged becomes more important when you get rid of the landline, because you want to always have the ability to make a call quickly. With a landline, as long as the power is on, you can just pick it up and make or receive a call. A cell phone isn't always on no matter what in the same way because it, obviously, has a battery. And when it runs out of battery it turns itself off. If you see what I mean.

I know you already know all that. It's just that when you rely on your cell phone as your only home phone, these things become a little more important.

I did not eliminate my land line and do not have plans to do so. Yes, I have a cell phone but I only use it for emergency purposes. My family and friends call my land line not my cell phone and it works for all of us. In fact many have land lines also. I do what I want to do and is good for me, so far the land line serves its purpose and I am always in touch with family and friends, doctor contacts, business contacts, no issues. I am glad I have my cell phone when our and about in case of an emergency but my land line is my connection to everyone.

FYI If you have a landline, invest in a plain phone without an electric ringer. One line only! Phone line.

Phones are not electric, your ringer is electric. Your phone will be working, just not get a ring.

You can call out!

Cell towers go out also, I would never be without my landline (and a regular phone). Peace of mind!
