Rut has started 2+ weeks early

Yesterday, PapaWick saw two bucks in an antler fight in the lot next to us. Today, he saw a doe being chased by a buck. We shall be very careful outside until it is over.

@MamaWick I looked out the kitchen window yesterday and saw a buck chasing a couple of doe's. They ran into the woods in the back so don't know if he was successful or not. This was in NY.

Florida deer were rutting in someone's yard a week ago.

Yes. it's true. One other caution: watch out for deer when you are driving. Over the years I have had three unfortunate encounters with deer. Two of them caused $4,000 damage to my cars. Today the price for repairs would be much higher. Also, it is dangerous for the driver. Fortunately, I was never injured. Some people are though. There are even deaths to people caused by deer collisions.

Sometimes nature can be not kind and brutal.

My father used to say that is the "food chain," the law of nature when I would get upset.

It can be sad to watch.

@ValuSkr , yes, it's started here in NE PA. Yesterday a bunch of does were peacefully hanging out by our pond. It wasn't long before we saw a young buck approaching. Haven't seen the older bucks yet but they're sure to follow. Some of them have very impressive racks.

@MamaWick Be extra careful as this is a bad time to get between a buck and his passions. Perhaps put food out and take pictures from safely inside if you feel the need to share. I would not want you to be harmed in feeding your deer family!

@MamaWick Climate change is upsetting the natural rhythms and patterns of many species. I understand the migration trails of caribou in Alaska have changed and the natives, who depend on them for meat, don't know where to find them. Even hummingbirds are lingering later.
