Being Safe Online

Well as most of you know, I am about safety on the internet. Having YouTube channels and FaceBook Platforms, I have learned a lot.

I just read a review for the spray that Shawn just had on for hair volumn. One lady was saying how she hated it and offered to mail to anyone that wanted it. So , She posted her E-Mail NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

1. Please don't post your E-Mail on the internet for strangers.

2. If You wanted that spray and you contact that stranger and give her your address???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO You are asking for issues. I did report it and hopefully they take it down, but please think about what information you give out.

Good Catch.

I would suggest you go back to your original post, make the font a little larger and bold your points, somehow when people do that, they have a tendency to remember better.

Not only never post your email, but also pics of your home online (other then when your selling it). Another dangerous thing is web cams (I'm on a pc) or ones that are built in, including TV's that have built in cameras. Years ago I bought a web cam and noticed the "eye" was following me, mind you I had it turned OFF. packed that thing up real quick and returned it. Will also not get Alexa or any of those type of things, including baby monitors because hackers can listen to your conversations.

Technology is good UNTIL it gets in to the WRONG hands.

@BalletBabe Thanks for posting this. I tell my friends and relatives the same thing......and they call me an old-fashioned LUDDITE.

A couple years ago, I noticed my across-the-street neighbor had a video camera focused on MY house, and every time I walked outside or left my garage, I could SEE the camera light flash.

I reported this to the HOA.....and the people suddenly moved........

@Desertdi Oh my! I caught my neighbor looking in my Kitchen window at 1:35 AM on morning. People are crazy today. That would have freaked me out to. Glad you reported it. Creepy!

@Donna2019 This is what I tell everyone on FaceBook, but they don't listen. Alexa don't bother me. I have her in every room here. I have a good friend on FaceBook and one day I went on and she was selling a table. So she posts pictures of it and then directions to her house underneath. Can't understand some people.

@BalletBabe A lot of people who post an "email address" when selling something are smart enough to create a dummy email address specifically for this. In other words it's not their "personal" email address. And it's safe. They have created this email address just to post when selling things. Hopefully this is the email address she posted. I'm sure there are people out there that will post their personal address but most know to create a dummy address and again it's safe. Giving out your address is stupid and should never be done.

In my opinion, it's best to have online profiles that are completely blank or down right fake. Nobody needs to know your personal information, up to and including actual name, place of residence etc. just by viewing your page or your channel etc.

Long ago I made up several "facts" that are part of my standard fake identity if I need to provide information on a site ... different name, DOB, address etc etc. My standard online "alias".

Of course, if people want to protect themselves even more, they could just stay off facebook.

@eadu4 You would be amazed at what hackers can get. Also if your giving it the person that wants the product is going to give their address. Not good.

@Snoopp One night I was watching QVC and it was in the middle of the night. They started talking about the ask my buddy feature which I have. My Alexa heard them and called everyone on my Emergency list. It was like 2 am here. Scared the heck out of everyone. LOL I told QVC to stop doing that and I never heard them do it after that.

@Mominohio I use all fake stuff on my accounts. Never use my real name or Birth Date. Google is the worst.

Stop to think, that person might be a seriel killer, or a robber, I can't believe you asked that question. It is a drug filled world out there. People are broke now also. Good way to get robbed.

I just found out that answering “group” Q’s on Twitter, etc like: what was your first pet? What was the first concert you attended? Etc. these give scammers ideas for your passwords! They are NOT as innocent as they seem!

My hubby is retired cop. My son sold a laptop and met the buyer at a Burger King. He asked to see it and as soon as he held it he ran with it! He was fast and knew where he was going. He was chased by a cop and threw the computer and took off. The computer was ruined. Lesson learned! Police Departments let you sell high priced items out of their lobbies in some towns now.

You can get killed or robbed without anyone ever knowing your address. Your theory of thinking is ridulous...Just because they know your address doesn't mean they will come and rob or kill you... How do you ever ordered anything without giving your address? I'm pretty sure robbers or killers aren't checking out people on line to get their address. Sad you live in such fear.
