AT&T & Repair

So the Direct TV was acting up, called for AT&T for repair since they own Direct TV.

2 vehicles showed up today, 2 guys in a van and one in a car (both had AT&T on their vehicles) so it was legit.

Long story short one of the repair men actually moved my garbage can blocking the kitchen from the living room and said he needed to go outside. Well, he came in from the door in the living room so there was no reason for him to go through the house and I told him to use that door. Then he wanted to use the bathroom and said "no" you can go across the street there's public restrooms there.

My guy was talking in the living room to the other guy that came from the AT&T marked car, he was a salesman that was trying to sell their internet, TV Service, and then cell phone. I quickly ended the conversation and said I had all your services at my business and no thank you. As soon as the salesman left, this repair guy went flying out of the house to talk to the salesman.

Thank goodness there was two of us here. Thank goodness I had the kitchen blocked off (mainly for the dog). Thank goodness I had the other doors of the rooms closed off and I just hung up from my friend and told her, she said he wanted to go through your medicine cabinet.

So all you ladies or gentlemen that are home alone, please ask a neighbor to come over if you have someone come in your home or do like me, block off the area and make sure all the other doors to the house are locked and your room doors closed.

Need to control repair people and anyone else coming into your home.

For some reason, I felt like I was going to be violated and had my guard up. What the repair man did to fix the TV was all done by his phone and sitting in front of the receiver. No need to chase anywhere in the house, no need to find another door in the house (he never went outside like he said he had to do) and he never went across the street.

I don't like people in my home but there was no choice in this matter.

Everyone that comes in our home enters through our rear patio room door. I have a 9mm handgun sitting on my TV tray right next to me when I am home. It is visible to anyone that enters our home.

I follow every person I do not know into whatever room they need to enter to fix our problem. I stick the 9mm in my waistband and carry it with me while they are in the house.

Restroom? For that we have many trees and no close neighbors, so they can do what I do when mowing when a long way from our house. Lots of privacy and lots of land.

I agree, one can never be too careful when it comes to strangers entering your home. Above is my way of protecting our life and property.

@Mistreatedbycs I do hope you called DirecTV/ATT asked for a supervisor and filed a formal complaint. We have never had such an experience and have had DTV for many years with many repairs. This is just not right!

File a complaint - for what? Because he asked to use the restroom?

I am the first to say have your guard up with strangers in your home, always. Always. But service people are still humans (who probably deal with lots of obnoxious customers all day long). If one asks to use the restroom, I say sure. Then I clean it after that person leaves.

I dread calling customer service (won't name the company) when I can't access my emails.

Dread, dread dread it. All they want to do is sell, then transfer to someone else, then sell again, over and over again. Hours go by. Headache.

I would call AT&T and tell them what happened. I cannot believe this is normal procedure. They may subcontract some of their work out. We have a local fiber optic company that subs out work and they put signs on their vehicles when they are representing the company. When in doubt, don't let them in.

We don't, never have.

You felt like you were going to be violated? By the cable guy? With all sorts of people around? That sounds a bit extreme to me.

I think you should have let them know ahead of time about your anxiety issues and requested that they send at least one female worker to ease your mind.

I sincerely hope you never need your home worked on. All sorts of people come and go when that is happening. Are you watching a lot of true crime and CSI type shows? The mindset you're displaying here is similar to how hopped up I used to feel when I watched that dreck on a regular basis.

Whenever I have issues with my cable tv or internet , the first thing they want to do is send someone over , after trying the usual unplug and sending new signals. I let them come over once a while ago ,2 guys came , they were all over my house and basement . They even went into rooms that had no TV in it . I couldn't believe it , opened up closed bedroom doors , ran up and down the stairs multiple times . I was home alone and it was very uncomfortable . After that when I had issues , same thing , they always want to have some one come over to " check the lines". Now I say no , and tell the person about how they came out and went through my whole house , so no way . I think the person on the line doesn't want to take the time to help fix the problem , even though most stuff can be done by phone or on line . Wondering if they want to sell reworking your lines ? When those guys were at my house, all they did was disconnect my basement TV and said it works now . I was so angry , l hooked it back up and it still worked .

I'm only thinking that it's (allegedly) mostly all about making sales and commissions.

Generally speaking, not naming companies:

Drumming up more unnecessary work to bill the customer.

My mindset was the same as when I owned and operated my own business.

Two older women came in with large bags, nothing unusual because I was down the block from a highly popular Chinese restaurant. They told me they just came in to look. So that was fine but about 2 minutes later there was an older man that came in and asked about this and that, led me over to a display on the far wall and then the women walked out and about 2 minutes later the man walked out. Needless to say, I lost about $250 worth of merchandise due to my stupidity.

Same happened with a father and his 2 sons, that wasn't much money but sad to see that he's teaching his sons it's OK to steal.

Countless instances like this just brought me back to yesterday, a salesperson keeping my friend busy while the tech decides he can roam the house and then when the salesman leaves, the tech runs over to him? Something wasn't right.

Thats all. This is my house, not everything is "locked up".

Years ago I had a Time Warner repair guy come to house to fix an TV issue. He asked to use restroom and I said yes. But next time I talked to a customer service person, she asked if I was pleased with service etc. I mentioend the restroom request and she had a fit! She told me that under no circumstances is a repair person allowed to ask or use a customer's restroom! She said she would look into it!

Have to say, the bathroom request was a first, weird and a bit off! In the past, have always had service people tell me they 'have to go get something from the warehouse'. Always thought they probably had to go to the bathroom!

I don't like people in my home either. What I do - when alone and need someone to come inside - is talk on the phone as I answer the door. Always say - loudly - the blank blank person from blank blank company - is coming in to fix issue. Sometimes, I keep talking on phone or fake it!
