Ebay Category Changes as of Today

As of today Ebay has eliminated many categories and lumped many items in one. I'm afraid it will be much harder for consumers to find items they want. You can still use the search bar but scrolling would take forever as there are no subcategories.

I have sold on Ebay for 25 years and have seen many changes, this one takes the cake.

Anyone else an Ebay buyer and or seller?

I buy my Anuschka leather hand painter crossbody bags there if i find the right one and price. I noticed the shipping prices on one bag was close to $25.00..wow!

I also have bought Joan Rivers earrings,Brighton earrings,some clothing,shoes,etc.

I will check it out today..thanks for the heads up.

I do a lot of buying & selling on Ebay, and this is the first I've heard of this ..... huh.

Did you see a notice announcing this? Do they think this is an "improvement" .... or what was the reason for the change?

I have been a steady customer buying on Ebay for the last 17 years. I am really not sure what you mean. when I am looking for something, I put it in the search box, and if it is there it comes up. I really dont know what you mean by eliminating categories. Do you mean they stopped allowing certain things to be listed and sold? Thanks

@rockygems123 Yes, I buy lots of DVDs lately, but over the years, have bought tons of all sorts of items, Jim Shore, faux florals, Fenton before it closed, DD collected frogs, etc.

Ebay is already user unfriendly, can never get in touch with anyone when there is a problem, no telephone number, never replies to my reply to their email, etc., so if shopping becomes difficult, forget ebay, pretty fed up from a few issues last year.

I am not aware of this but don't see a problem personally? If I'm looking for something I'll type in specifically what I want. I can't EVER remember searching for something by "category". That would take forever to scroll through tens of millions of items & I don't have time for that!

Even if you don't specifically know what you want, you can still type in generally what you want & filter from there.

As far as ebay customers calling a phone number of a seller-NO FREAKING WAY would I answer a call from a stranger under any circumstance! Nor provide it unsolicited. My phone number is not a business number like calling Macy's customer service as an example, and I can see why people don't answer if you tried calling them!! Ebay has a messaging system where you communicate & that's where it should begin & end for any communication. No personal emails exchanged either. If you had a bad transaction & the seller or customer do not respond timely, ebay has safeguards to oversee this & handle problems.

I've been a seller/buyer for 20+ years.

Yes another Ebay "improvement", it was in the Fall 2021 Seller Update and I also discovered it when I listed something the day prior and the following day (yesterday) the categories I used no long existed and Ebay chose where to put it.

I'm guessing their reason is to save / make more money. Not sure how but I'm sure their tech geeks have a good reason, sarcasm.

No explanation, they must feel that using their search bar vs browsing by category will work better. You'd have to know the right keywords however and a potential buyer may find more of what they're looking for, or didn't know they were looking for it lol by browsing...in addition to searching.

Ebay is always trying to weed out sellers and hopefully the best remain. After 25 years of selling on Ebay you can't beat it but I'm a pioneer and reliable seller, I'm sure you do but good to look at feedback.

@sommertime. My bad! No worries! Years ago I had a customer try calling me when phone numbers were provided to winning bidders/buyers! They got mad cause I never answered or called them back. It was a bit unnerving but I stuck to only communicating via ebay so it was all tracked ( ebay can see what you say in all communications if it comes to disagreements).

I have no problem with that since I'm not saying anything beyond transaction details anyway, but it helps to sometimes say to weirdos that their conversation is "traceable " via ebay...that usually shuts them up REAL quick! lol And gives me ammunition in cases of disputes w crazy people, so I'm all for being tracked that way.
