USPS adding surcharge for Holiday season

I just read that USPS will add surcharges to packages Oct 3 through Dec 26. I really hate these package fees. Anywhere from .25 to $5.

you can find more detailed information directly on the USPS website. this was announced back in august 2021.

The United States Postal Service filed notice today with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) regarding a temporary price adjustment for key package products for the 2021 peak holiday season. This temporary rate adjustment is similar to one in 2020 that anticipated heightened peak-season package and shipping demand, which typically results in extra handling costs.

I read that too but they've done that in the past so it's nothing new.

Just got back from the PO and the man at the counter told me the PO is only going to use trucks starting October 1 so your 1st class letter will take up to week to get delivered.

He said you need to mail early for the Holidays, he said priority packages won't be affected but we all know better.

LOL it has been taking that long for the past two years now.....if we are lucky enough to even receive it......

These people are overworked. To say the least.

I have a rural carrier. He was 2 hrs late today and splitting another carrier's route.

I thought that too but I just couldn't bring myself to be a "smart*ss" and tell him the truth. They take enough cr*p from the public and I sure didn't want to add to that.

last week I mailed a box from my FL post office to PA-- neither town a PO hub. The box had been promised for Monday- but by then I had already had a thank you phone call for the Saturday "surprise."

I won't be surprised to see all shipping costs rise as companies find they cannot hire good help at their old wages and the cost of gasoline rises like a hot air balloon!

Which is why many of us will do direct ship from the vendor with free shipping. Much easier, have to say and they arrive on the day they state. My days of sending packages from home ended some time ago.

As for shopping for us, I shop year round for gifts. We've complete our holiday shopping so no worries there either.

I was going to order two throw blankets at macys, when i got to checkout, shipping was free... but they wanted to add a 32.00 surcharge ! The throws were only 30.00....I was lucky and the store had them in stock, I picked them up.

I would guess that might have been for expedited shipping.

No , it was regular shipping, i tried 2 times thinking i did something wrong. They were just sherpa throws, very light.

Good luck to all who have to mail packages, either for the holidays or other special occasions or both.

Luckily we do not have to mail anything. I cannot remember the last time we stepped into the post office. I do have to mail in my passport renewal but I think I'll wait until after the holidays. DH may not even bother.
