Anyone use Crestor?

If you use the statin Crestor, how is it working for you? Any side effects? I was on lipitor, but it made me dizzy, so my doctor prescribed Crestor. I haven't taken it yet; just researching all the side effects it could cause.

Any response would be appreciated.

@zitawins I have a long history of coronary artery disease, have had cardiac by pass and 3 stents placed. I have been on crestor several years now and have not had the sidee effects I experienced with zocor and lipitor. No problems at all. Good luck to you.

A statin is the only meds I take. Lipitor / Zocor made my legs feel like rubber bands after going to the gym or long walks. Crestor is good. Doc wants to put me on new meds that surfaced on my next appointment.

I think all statins have pretty much the same list of possible side effects, although just because you have a side effect with one doesn't mean you will have that or any side effect with another. In fact, Red Yeast Rice, which is a natural supplement touted for cholesterol control also has those possible side effects. The one that concerned me the most was possible muscle loss.

My doctor first put me on Crestor and it made me ache all over like an 80-yr old. At 60, prior to Crestor, I had no body aches. I told the doctor I couldn't take it, so he took me off. A year later after my physical results he put me on a generic Simvastatin and I have had no problems since, and a lot better for the checkbook.

Three months ago my doctor switched me from atorvastin Lipitor to rosavastatin Crestor. My liver enzymes escalated. Now, back to Lipitor plus ezetia ..no side effects, but lowered cholesterol.

@zitawins I highly recommend watching a near 2 hour documentary youtube video called 'Fat Head'. Don't be put off by the title. Since the video is long, stream it to your tv.

There are many key points throughout on several health issues...quite an eye-opening/educational video.

Don't skip through the video...all the key points are connected. I know you are asking about Crestor, and the video does have very helpful info related to cholesterol, statins and especially women who take statins.

The entire video needs to be watched for it all to make sense. My DH took Crestor for about 10 years and it wound up giving him more health issues. He was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in Sept 2018, and I was pre-diabetic. Since changing our lifestyle to keto low/carb, our blood sugar level is now normal. DH took himself off of Crestor. His Dr took him off both of his diabetic meds.

Cholesterol is not the enemy...carbs - starches/sugars are. We were fed a lot of bologna...starting as far back as about/around the 70's. Quite maddening...

DH and I thankfully took off our rose colored glasses and couldn't be healthier now.

Quite some time ago, I was prescribed Lipitor. I had to stop it within a year because it caused vision problems which resolved after ceasing the drug. Another doctor later asked me to try Crestor. Almost immediately, I could barely get up and down or move my arms and legs. I stopped it after speaking with my doctor. The only statin I have been able to tolerate is Lovastatin.

Sadly, so many Drs nowadays deal with their patients 'old school'. and don't bother incorporating new findings. It puts many of their patients at risk by giving them prescriptions unnecessarily...like my DH and myself!

Even I was given poor info and prescriptions that were not needed and effected my health/made my health worse! At one point I was afraid of dying! I wrote a lot about it in my OP in this thread a couple of years ago if you care to read it...

No, I have not seen it, and I don't watch "documentaries" that are anti-medicine. Not all prescriptions are evil, you know. I will trust my doctor, who knows my history, over a slanted anti-medicine so-called "documentary".

No, I have not seen it, and I don't watch "documentaries" that are anti-medicine. Not all prescriptions are evil, you know. I will trust my doctor, who knows my history, over a slanted anti-medicine so-called "documentary".

DH and I are not anti-medicine...we are against those that do more harm than good.

Can't you just accept that not everybody wants to live the way that you do?

I would like to share my husband’s experience with taking a statin drug giving him bad side effects.

This is his experience, shared with a few people we know, who also were experiencing statin’s bad side effects. They successfully changed their medication and eliminated bad side effects, under the supervision of their physicians. Always have your physician involved!

Our GP is a younger internal medicine certified doctor. When DH told him about his bad side effects from a statin during a checkup, our doctor recommended trying a product by Nature Made called “Cholestoff COMPLETE.” It’s an over-the-counter medication, but must be the “Complete” version.

DH’s cardiologist agreed to have him have a trial. Statin stopped, this product taken for a trial time, and then bloodwork reviewed. Cardiologist well-known and experienced, had never heard of taking this product. He is also considered an excellent heart surgeon.

Trial very successful. DH has taken for a couple years now.

Cardiologist now recommends this product to his patients who endure bad side effects from statins! Isn’t that amazing?

And DH purchases product from Amazon for the best price.

I certainly would suggest giving this a try, but only under the guidance of a physician. Changing or eliminating meds is serious business.

I see many that are, or have taken a Statin. What I don't see is how many millograms they are taking. Taking 20mg can be much different that taking 80mg, regardless of the name of the statin.

O/T: @Susan Louise , I just want to mention that a few years back I did watch that video, on your recommendation. It is informative and it reminded me a lot of Dr. Atkins' work (who was, in fact, a cardiologist). I read his original book many years ago. I've always thought it was too bad he died in a freak accident because he was pretty groundbreaking, but his story and the reasons behind what he did got obscured in the rush to commercialize his name.

Good health to you, and all posters here. I think it's important to keep an open mind. I've started taking the herbal supplement ashwagandha and a pleasant side effect has been my thyroid function is more stable.

Michael Pollan has written extensively about the corn surplus/subsidy/corn syrup industry, I'm sure you know. That we force ruminants to eat like that is a travesty.

Yes I used crestor in the early 2000"s and it worked great--numbers were amazing--I have family high cholesterol so have used and tried most of them all with side effects after about 3 months. But the one side effect that was major for me is that it can cause achilles tendon problems---I had walnut sized bumps on the back of each ankle that made walking horrible--tried all the non invasive things first but had surgery to remove them, one ankle at a time. was very costly--about $15,000 each foot--that side effect was not listed on the contra-indications for crestor--found out later ONLY 40,000 people had issues with this problem so was not enough to put on that pamphlet. My point is--you need to read and research it too. My dr knew nothing about it--never asked what I was taking. I don't take any statins at all--am taking red yeast rice per my cardiologist.
