Very odd

As usual, my cat Slick jumped up on the night stand early this morning and started knocking stuff around to get me out of bed. I yelled at him to knock it off. Right after that I distinctly heard a man's voice as if it was in the room say just maybe 3 words. I thought my alarm had gone off so I got out of bed and it was 4:08 a.m. and not time for the alarm to go off for awhile yet and it had not turned on. I don't remember what was said. It's very quiet in the neighborhood that time of day and didn't appear anyone was out and about. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I losing it?

It might not appeared that someone was outside, but I bet they were. They usually speak softly, but it does carry. It could have been someone by your house, under your window. Either on your property or next door. Voices do carry.

If your cat tried to wake you up when it wasn't the routine time, he was probably warning you of danger. Was anything out of place in your house or is anything missing? If I were you, I would double-lock all doors and windows at night, especially if you live alone.

The most likely answer is a man was outside, voices carry. You'll get all kinds of over the top replies...go with the obvious & don't let others scare the heck out of you.

@catter70 I, too, heard a man's voice say a couple of words which I cannot make out. It happens in the very late night. It does not wake me as I'm always fully awake when it happens. It does not happen often, maybe 3 times in the last 5 years. A mystery.

That was a scarey story. Sometimes I hear people outside in the middle of the night and I will peek outside to see if I can see anyone and I never can, so weird. We live in a very quiet condo complex and we are at the end of a cul de sac. I understand voices carry when it's quiet outside but it still creeps me out. Of course DH never hears a thing, just I do.

It might be innocent, but I would say that your cat sensed some kind of danger, and alerted you.

Do you have a clock radio? Maybe Slick stepped on the on/off button with a front paw and then again with a back paw, turning it on very briefly and then off. My kitty does that with the answering machine.

My cat always gets me up around the same time every morning, so I don''t think he was trying to warn me of anything. He's very much a creature of habit (as am I) and he wanted his snack. It was not the clock radio as that's not where Slick was and I checked it and it wasn't on. No cars driving by. It didn't scare me as much as it just made me wonder what the heck it was. I guess it was probably someone outside, but it sounded like it was right up close to my ear. Oh, well, another thing to think about. Thanks.

Dreaming. I'll hear funny noises and then realize it's really coming from myself snoring with mouth open LOL

I had a deadbolt put on my bedroom door and one of those slip under the door things that you turn on and if somebody applies any kind of pressure to the door it emits a sound loud enough to wake the dead and won't let anybody open the door.

HSN had some great over the door hinge things that if somebody tries to open a door it won't open beyond 2 inches. I've looked high and low for them elsewhere since HSN sold out of them can't find. I want 4 sets of them

@catter70 Since you were awakened suddenly by your cat, your brain may have possibly been behind to be fully awake. This can cause hearing voices or noises of undetermined source.

There are also hypnagogic hallucinations but those occur when falling asleep.

Not to worry-my take is that you were awakened but not fully awake. It is possible someone was passing by outside but either way you are ok.

Just be sure you have secured your home before falling asleep. It will be ok.

Could have been an auditory hallucunation. I have a long term partial hearing loss and chronic insomnia. I get them here and there. The cat may not have startled you fully awake.

Locking your doors and windows at night shouldn't be scary just common sense. Always a good idea.

It could have been someone outside, or if you live in connected housing, someone in an adjoining unit.

If you don't live around other, like we do, it could have been anything 'not normal'.

I believe people that have gone on can and do contact us, warn us, and we can sometimes hear them. Not all of us experience something like that, but I do believe it can and does happen.

As someone else mentioned, if your cat was out of sync with the time, that speaks to me of some kind of reality of the voice, either alive or otherwise. I know my cats are really like clockwork for getting me awake if I vary from my schedule, and never make their presence known early like that.

@catter70 I'm hearing disabled and have tinnitus (ear noises). Usually it's a buzz or ringing.
As my hearing became worse so has the tinnitus. I try to tune the sounds out, but now it's harder. I'll sometimes hear a man talking fast like on a TV commercial. It sounds like he says "free shipping and handling!" Over, and over, it's hard to tune out!
I think you were probably tossing in your sleep and woke the cat who thought it was wake up time. Then you weren't fully asleep but thought you heard it.
But lock your door!
