CONNECTICUT ARTIST DOES TRIBUTE TO AMERICAN SPIRIT

Robert Carley, in front of the flag-themed tire "assemblage" he put together in his own back yard.

Robert Carley is a Connecticut artist who, after 9/11, wanted to record in photos the patriotic spirit of Americans affected by that day.

In the last 20 years, he's journeyed around the country capturing these clever, heart-felt flag-inspired tributes by regular Americans, and his work has been collected and shown in various exhibits.

A small sampling of his inspiring finds:

Gravel tribute, beside a highway--

Mural in New York City--

Patriotic young man--

Maryland house--

American flag balloon at a balloon fest. Wonder if that's at your fabled Albuquerque hot air to-do, @just bee?

Texas house--

Another NYC mural--

Metal roof--

Sweet horse, peeking out from a Pennsylvania barn--

VW, dedicated to the passengers of Flight 93, and to firefighter first responders--

Connecticut house--

Locally, in our area we had a farmer, I believe, paint a very meticulous American flag covering the entire roof of one of his farm outbuildings. We could see it every time we drove out in the country between towns, and loved it!

What a great archival project Robert Carley undertook. There's something about seeing his various photographs, all together in the aggregate, sympolizing the indomitable spirit of the American people. To me, inspiring and comforting.

I love to see Americans so patriotic.

Look at this beauty. A Carley, too.

That little Maryland house is so cute!!

Fun stuff. Being non-creative myself, I always appreciate creative talent.

We were on vacation in Rhode Island this summer and passed a one story home painted as the American flag. I had never seen that before, but did see some posted here.

Forgot to mention-- Carley's latest exhibit, "In the Wake of 9/11-- Robert Carley's American Journey", has been running this summer at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut, but can be caught there only until September 12. He seems to have periodic exhibits around the country though.

You know me - I'm terrified of bees. But these guys are a favorite of mine, too. I've seen them here at the Reno Balloon Race over the years and got a few cute pics.

@hayseed00, the sight of that little car, with its now-famous and reverberating motto "Let's roll", from Flight 93, really got to me too. Those passengers who took a vote, and then acted in unison to try to stop the attackers-- they can never be praised enough.
