Post From a Fast Food Worker

I ran into this post on a local public website yesterday and felt like it was worth sharing:

"I've been working at a local Wendy's for $12 an hour 4 about a week now. during this time I've bout lost hope in humanity LOL. Im surprised by the blatant ignorance of the people that come through our drive-thru. Yes we may be taking a long time or closing early or only accepting mobile orders at this time or lobby may be closed, sorry. Y'all "consumers" be turning up and flexin hard on us Wendy's workers like it's our faults. that we're short-handed to the point where we cant even run the store. Does anyone watch the news anymore? Or is everyone just walking around with their heads up their butts with no knowledge of what's going on in the outside world. Most of our workers are out because they done caught covid and no one's applying for work. People wake up and pay attention to what's going on around you".

Working with the public is not "fun", esp. under the current circumstances. I've heard of people going loco if they don't get their food fast enough, they didn't like their server, they were sold out of chicken sandwiches, etc...

I feel for anyone that is serving the public these days - including grocery store workers, policemen and women, flight attendants, teachers, and the list goes on.

Hopefully this person can and will locate another job more suitable.

Yes, this is more like it. It's simply amazing so many people living with their heads in the sand.

Then, they question those who do know what's going on as if they are lying.

It's maddening.

Truer words were never spoken. The number of people who do not know, or worse do not care about what is happening at this moment in time is frightening.

I thought a year and a half ago that circumstance might be what it took for a segment of society to return to where we again treated others the way we would want to be treated. I was wrong. So many still live in their own bubble. (Which sometimes I think is wrapped in tin foil.) Oblivious to what's happening around them.

Yes, you can be waiting for over 30 minutes in line at a fast food drive through. There's often no more than two people working. Imagine the frustration and burn out of others working jobs where they are so short handed. I'm just always thankful that places have stayed open and I can still afford to go there.

My heart goes out to all those that are professionally dealing with the public right now.

Most of all, I have no concept how the medical professionals go to work, day after day, and deal with the same horrible issues of last year and now.

They have to be mentally, spiritually and physically burned out.

I was referring to the saying that one bad apple spoils the bunch. It only takes one sufficiently nasty customer to ruin a worker's whole day. The rest of us, nice as we might be, can't make up for that.

Then we customers get a bad reputation because of the actions of a few of us. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

Although it's unfortunate that some people are less than patient, understanding, etc, let's not paint the entire population with such a broad brush. For the most part, I think most people are decent.

Well, that is part of the "joy" of having a job. Sorry, but life isn't fair, everyone isn't nice, and you are fortunate to have a job.

What does this guy think the police put up with? Postal workers, and about anyone that has a job now.

LIfe is hard on a lot of people. So it's time for people to calm down, realize that it is hard for everyone and be nice. You don't know what kind of day the folks at the window have had either--so have a little sympathy for others. Count your blessings and try to bless someone else today.

You originally mentioned 'everyone else' not 'a worker' so I responded accordingly. Furthermore, although it takes effort, it's a person's choice to see the glass half full (ie 8 of 10 customers were patient and understanding). So yes, the rest of us can help 'make up for that'.

Perhaps those customers who are fussing about slow service, etc., should apply for some of the vacant jobs, and that might speed up service! Lots of open jobs right now, so go grab one of them! I would be applying for one of them if I wasn't 74 years old with a broken arm right now!!

I worked for MacDonald's for 7 years and I can only echo "amen" to what you said.

I once worked lunch on a Sunday. Never again; we had a big mega-church close to us and the parishoners coming through the drive-thru on Sunday after the last service were all too often hungry and rude. They'd change their order 2 or 3 or 4 times and then get all in a snit if we accidentally made a mistake with their very confusing order.

Give me a housewife with 2 or 2 children hanging on her. They were our best cusomers.
