Guess what baby bats are called?

I read this today reading an article about how baby bats "babble" like human babies!

And they are also very docile and sweet and can predict the future!

Meaning they make a 3d image of where their prey (insects) will go next!

And speaking of docile. Possums, though some think are very scary looking, are really quite shy and not aggressive at all. I used to be afraid of them but they are so what we wouldn't think as attractive, they are so unattractive, I think they are cute!

Possums look like rats to me. Some bats have dog faces which I think are cute, however, there are some very scary-looking bats, too...really scary.

@on the bay There's nothing cuter than baby possums, some adults, too. Some look a little more gnarly than others, but I love them all.

I have to clear then out of my yard for my dog's last potty break at night. They get the drill, now. I have some cute pics, but haven't figured out how to post photos here.

Possums are environmentally helpful, as are the bats. I'm all for protecting them the best we can. There's a huge bat population in Austin, that draws an evening crowd.

I started early with my appreciation. I have an old photo of me as a little girl, in the hills of KY, with a baby possum crawling up my chest. I was clearly mesmerized then, by how unique they are, and I still am.

@on the bay Well now that is very interesting. A bat got in our house once and flew right past my nose when I came in the door in the dark. It left what I now know as "pups" in a waste basket. We put them outside--don't know if it came back for them or not.

Possums are ugly and nasty to me and they can snarl and hiss too with all those teeth -- it's scary!. We have them come through the yard at night sometimes.

We had one come through one night this spring and was caught on camers with babies along for the ride.

I have watched hour long shows about all the different types of bats. Some of them are very cute, some not so much.

Possums are very good for the environment but I find the adults to be very ugly and they stink. We've had them in our backyard before and I saw one walk across our deck one evening, trying to go under our hot tub. Thankfully it moved along because that's one less thing I had to worry about when I put my pupper out. LOL

I met a possum face to face coming out of our house. It had come in the garage and up the stairs almost to the door that goes out to the garage. It was on the landing between the sets of stiars.

But really that must have been amazing to see the babies!

My daughter just got a ring to try to catch the raccoon in the act of stealing the treats she leaves out for delivery/mail people.

She saw a pretty neighbors cat instead! That neighbor maybe should start giving her kitty more treats!

First time I discovered that was a title of a book. A Murder of Crows (by Ruth Rendell) She had another one with the (correct title) An Unkindness of Ravens. Both are classic murder mysteries.

@on the bay You just never know do you? I know of some crows stealing $20 bills out of a guy's wallet in a golf cart and lining their nest with them! Which I think is pretty funny.

The same ones flew off with husband's big ole blueberry muffin--wrapper and all. He was really upset about that!

I don't thinkI kept it, butI made a LONG list of baby animal names for a contest that we played at my grandson's baby shower.

Some of the teacher guests kept the lists for their students.

I'm a REAL SUCKER for baby animals!

@violann @Yes. I did that with my class!! Others babies are pups...anteaters, coyote, raccoon, squirrel Some baby animal names are funny. A baby octopus is a fry.

Ugly animals serve their purposes in nature too. Without buzzards and blowflies the world would stink.
