What has some value these days?

I suppose if you meant what concrete "things' have value?

That will always be in the eye of the beholder, the collector, the curator, and of course, the hoarder.

My neighbor has a LOT of "valuable" stuff cluttering up his property.

I guess he's waiting for someone to need the one screw that holds something onto one of the 29 broken lawn mowers sinking into the grass, instead of that person just going to Lowes to buy the screw, and letting people like ME not to have to look at his "valuable" collection of....JUNK.

When you live near a hoarder who's let his "valuables" spill into the public view, you recalibrate your idea of "valuable" pretty quick. It's a curse word to me.

Value or resale value? Two very different things.

Collectible items usually means resale value. Even diamonds have low resale value.

I agree with the previous post that real estate is the only thing that comes to mind as having such value; maybe gold as well.

I can't think of any "collectible" items that have any resale value That was never more than a selling gimmick.

I think real handmade Oriental rugs hold their value, they are timeless.

A few examples of those in good condition.

Vintage designer clothing and accessories in good condition, particularly, Hermes, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton.

Persian Rugs.

Equestrian Paintings.

Old and Vintage Chinese Vases.

Antique furniture made during the late 1700's by prominent cabinetmakers of the time.

I don't value things anymore. While I am blessed to have a essentials I don't need as much as I thought I used to. I value people. Over the last year I have really learned the value of family and friends. So many people know have lost loved ones as have I. I just miss spending time with family and friends like I used to. Maybe this wasn't the intent of the post but that's what I value. As far as collectibles, if I have to dust it I don't want it.

People are putting less value on things. Experiences, family, time are now what is important to them.

YESSS! Always. But definitely in a surge right now. I'm in CT...bidding wars, people out of state moving in...people in state moving out (hello, one of the highest TAXED to death, literally, state...but, to those moving in from NY, NJ...their $$ makes a lot of our shoreline real estate a bargain to them.)

I know...it's a thread about collectibles...but just wanted to agree with you here... imo, real estate is always a good investment...if you can and you do it wisely. Been wishing I had a few investment properties at this stage of the game myself.

Amen to all that. I'm with ya, and for the same reasons. Perhaps that's what has me on this tear to LIGHTEN THE bleep UP!...Been decluttering like a mad-woman. Going to consignment and charity this week...can't wait. Feels good. Now...if we only can get back, safely, to the things that do matter, that will be a blessing we all need.

DH and I love to watch the Pickers and Pawn Stars. We watch old classic car sales, too. These are some things we have noticed.

Old toys and dolls

Antique furniture

Faberge eggs

comic books

Indian rugs

Chinese porcelain

Some vases and pottery

movie star paraphernalia
