Increases in Medicare for 2022

Each year, there are changes to the Part D Prescription Drug Coverage of Medicare. We won't have visibility to the actual Part D Plans until October, but there are some structural changes that occur each year with Part D. Key updates for 2022 are below.

Annual Deductible Limit - increase of $35 from $445 in 2021 to $480 in 2022
Initial Coverage Level increase of $300 from $4,130 in 2021 to $4,430 in 2022
True-out-of-Pocket Limit increase of $500 from $6,550 in 2021 to $7,050 in 2022

I read online 5.8, but you can bet medicare will also increase more, bring the amount way down that we actually get.

Well, we're supposed to get an increase in SS benefits and they usually balance each other out.

My drug costs went up quite a bit and I'm already in the "donut hole". I usually end up there, but not til Nov. or so.

@RetRN Agree. I find nothing that matches those figures, especially the annual deductible. (I had to correct the figure.)

She is looking at the chart for premiums based on income and also based on individual quarters, not the amt. of deductible.

These figures appear to be taken from MedicareHaven and she is mixing deductible figures with premium figures.

I don't know what you're talking about as I've been on Medicare a number of years, have had major surgery and visit my doctor and specialists numerous times a year but have never paid a penny out of pocket.

@Kachina624 I don't know to whom you are talking to but I have a question for you-Medicare has a deductible so do you have some type of supplemental insurance?

I've never heard of Medicare paying for everything with nothing out of pocket to the patient.

@Kachina624 you are very fortunate. We are on Social Security. I can assure you our yearly income is not that big. Because of health problems my DH and I have our monthly healthcare costs are very high and we have to pay for what Medicare and our Private Insurance doesn't pay. Our prescription medications are very high every month and keep going up. As I said you are very lucky...please take care of youself!

But this website is for people to enroll to speak with an advisor, not with Medicare.

I am not seeing these figures on the Medicare website.

Medicare Part D is only for RX drugs. It is usually purchased by those who have Medicare supplements.

Those who have Medicare Advantage plans normally have RX coverage included at no extra cost and do not need Medicare Part D.

Every insurance company that sells Medicare Part D offers different coverage at different prices.

Medicare Part D coverage can be changed every year during open enrollment with no penalty. You are wise to look at the different offerings from many insurance companies and see what best fits your needs.

You can have a Medicre Supplement plan with one company and a Medicare Part D plan with another.

The benefits posted by the OP may not be offered in your area and are benefits unique to her plan. They would only apply to those who have that particular plan with the same insurance she has.

Open enrollment begins in October. At that time indormation will be released about the benefits and prices in your state and county. Most people have plenty of plans available to be able to choose one that can afford that works best for them.

Some Medicare Part D plans have no copayment for drugs and no deductible.

If your only income is SS, please look into Medicare "Specizl Help.". This programs pays part of my Medicare premium and limits my drug costs to approx. $ 3.50 for generic and $8.50 for non generic. There is no donut hole. Your home and car don't count agaunst you. This program is not really advertised and many people are midding out. I am on about 12 prescriptions, some very, very expensive and could not possibly pay for them without this program.

I also recommend talking with a broker when deciding on an Advantage plan. They will have comparison info on all plans in your areaand can also probably help with applying for the "Special Help ."
