You Would Think I’d Know!

I seldom leave the house without a decent outfit and a little makeup. During quarantine I got lazy, as I would go places but not leave the car.

Friday night I needed to buy a card. I thought to myself- I'm just going to run in quickly. I know the manager- have since Girl Scout days and she's definitely seen me without makeup. I had spilled something on my navy top, but you wouldn't know unless you stared at me. I didn't even comb my hair, and no jewelry of course. Right before I got there I put Lipsense on. I think that's just habit. So at least my lips looked good.

You know what happened. It had to. When I got out of the car, I ran into a family I would never have wanted to see me like that! I was conscious of it the whole time we talked.

I KNOW I'm not the only one, right? There's a reason Mom told me to always look nice going out all those years ago. And back then I COULD leave with shorts and a T-shirt, and no makeup, and still look good! LOL!

Had you put on makeup, combed your hair, and wore other clothes, you wouldn't run into anyone you knew.

When I'm tempted to run out in clothes I'd be embarrassed to be seen in, I always think about being hit by another car and having to stand on the side of the road waiting for police or a wrecker. And yes, I actually was rear-ended twice this past year, while sitting at a dead stop. So it does happen. And thank goodness I was presentable (and uninjured).

I've never believed in getting all dolled up just to go to the store. So people see (generic) you sans make up and hair uncombed. So what? They probably thought nothing of it.

Heck, I've gone to the corner market without a bra on,in sweatpants and a ratty t-shirt, let alone make up and dressed to the nines.

I always taught school in the same neighborhood where I lived...so going out without makeup and a decent outfit, even if just jeans and a nice top, has never been an option. The one and only time I ran into the pharmacy in the grocery store to pick up a prescription and was without makeup and had on sweats, who do I run into but the mother of one of my most "challenging" students. She cornered me and I was mortified. Now I am simply ravishing when I go out....it's a habit now! 😬 I still run into parents of former students occasionally and I do enjoy seeing them even now. I think younger women can get by with the messy bun/ yoga pants outfit, but on older women like me we look like a homeless person. Just imho.

This is a depressing thread for yet another reason it is so stressful to be female.

The person you could accidentally run into probably wouldn't even notice. We should wear makeup, jewelry, a nice outfit for ourselves, not for others. It's beautifying to live a less pressured life.

I try to do hair and makeup just in case (I've learned) there may be a trip to the ER. It could be either one of us that has to go. You know you'll be there for hours. Sometimes, I just get the hair done, for sure, everyday. But going out, give me 5 minutes, and we can roll.

But secondly, it's nice to pass a mirror and see nice looking vs. my other look. I think it's good for the soul. I have some clean face days too, it's good for the skin.

Since wearing a mask again I only wear mascara, fluff up my hair and I'm out the door. If running into someone I know, it's not coming off. My clothes fit me (because I had to buy new that was 1 size up) and are current. No worries.

I could not care less if a woman was wearing make-up or not. Clean clothes is another matter. My style would never be to go out in those jersey type skin tight leggings as they look like childrens pajama botoms to me. But that's just me.

I'm all for clean underware but I never understood that saying put 'em on in case you get into an accident "cause, Buddy, If I'm in rough enough shape that my undies need to be hauled off at the hospital I've got a hunch they ain't clean no more anyway.

In a nut shell, Don't go out in clothes you wouldn't be caught dead in.

We think other people care about how we look, but they really generally don't. They are busy doing their own thing... So don't worry! 😁

People who judge others based on makeup, hair, and clothes aren't really friends or people I'd like to know. It's too bad for others if they don't like what I wear. I haven't worn makeup since I retired 5 years ago and my skin has never looked better. I'm me and people like me or they don't.

I just don't care anymore. I am always in slob mode. The only thing I care about is if my earrings are in. My friends are always please brush your hair! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Someone said to do makeup and hair in case there is a trip to ER. I don't know anyone who cares what they look like in ER. If they're that sick, looking good is the last thing on their mind.

I try to always look presentable when I leave the house. It really doesn't take much of an effort and is well worth it for the one time I ran into my boyfriend from high school! I remember walking away after a nice chat with him saying to myself.......d*m, I look good

I'm a morning person, always have been, I prefer to go grocery shopping early in the mornings and have noticed some of the younger crowd wearing t-shirts or whatever with pajama bottoms and slippers pushing their shopping carts, like they just got out of bed and on to do their grocery shopping. Times have changed!

I got rid of all my makeup months ago. When I go out I am showered, my hair is clean as are my clothes. If that isn't good enough for the fashion/makeup police, oh well.

My sister had to call an ambulance for my Mom years ago. Mom wanted my siser to "do her eyebrows" before they came for her. Sis said no, it was an emergency room not an I'm going to a party room.

I wear makeup every day but not because I want to look good in case I run into someone I know - it's to make me feel my best. No one has the power to cause me to feel uncomfortable even if I was not wearing makeup!

I focus only on being clean, smelling clean, and wearing clean clothes.

No makeup after I retired, and my hair only needs a wash, blow, and I'm ready to go.
