1st EBay purchase ever

I have been looking for an eyeshadow that has been discontinued for a long time. I knew it was available on ebay but never really felt safe purchasing from a online auction site. Well today I finally gave in and bought it. What are anyone's experiences with their ebay purchases? Thanks.

I've been purchasing on eBay since 1999. The vast majority of my purchases have been fine. And even if something does go wrong, eBay's Money Back Guarantee (which, if you haven't, I do suggest you read) is great. You do need to abide by its rules, though. Make sure you check out their deadlines.

Good for you. Ebay can be fun.

I have been shopping there for 20 years. Have only had 2 questionable sellers and that was early when I wasn't that familiar with the website. Ebay refunded my money.

Buyers need to look at sellers' ratings. I don't buy from anyone below 99%, but mostly look at those with at least 99.5%.

I buy from them once in awhile. I recently just bought a brand new Nautical Dooney Bag from them. They do not make the Nautical anymore and I was happy to get it. I do not buy a lot from them but my son does. He loves it. Sometimes they have things you can't find anywhere else.

I've made dozens of excellent purchases, been buying about 5(?) years.

Been stung on eBay only once, a cosmetic item, and they corrected it.

Many times I'm looking on eBay for something I already had/have, but that model/style is no longer in stores.

I have been buying on eBay for about 20 years. My experiences have been good. I also look carefully at a seller's feedback rating before I consider making a purchase. I have been able to find things there that are retired jewelry pieces. I am very pleased that I found on eBay in 2019 earrings to match a ring I bought at a jewelry store in 1990. Just be careful.

I always look at the expiration date (if there is one) on cosmetics. I had been sold expired makeup before on ebay so I avoid that category.

Long time ebayer, I have found many items such as dishes, tablecloths, ceramics, Sterling, and way, way back original art prints. Only one bad experience.

As others have said, watch ratings, and read feedback. My tip, bid only what the item is worth to you, then you will be pleased with your find!

@Drythe This is where I get confused. I thought ebay was an auction site but the price for the 3 eyeshadows was already set. Is it both ways on ebay? I also did check the seller's ratings (learned that from Amazon marketplace).

I love buying ebay!

Sometimes i will contact the seller and with lower offer offer to buy and most will accept my offer or offer me a different % off...

I try to avoid doing any bidding...but i have won a few items.

I have been buying Joan Rivers leverback earrings,the ones i never saw on qvc,etc.

I purchase Mary Kay lip crayons on Ebay that MK discontinued years ago....but I love one color and won't give it up! Too bad make-up companies keep changing their colors. It's probably expired but what is a girl to do..!?

Congrats, Ebay can be very addicting, made my first purchase 17 years ago, have not stopped yet, it is my go to dept store, usually much better prices than on Amazon. Sign up for Bonus Bucks. Enjoy the savings!!

Remember thry are on the rebate sites too, and if there is ever a problem PayPal will refund or the seller will take care of it.

Also as far as set prices, some sellers list with Make an Offer, I always ask for a better price.

Sadly, thry are forced to charge tax now, I miss the no tax on Ebay days.

My first eBay purchase was in 2005, Philosophy's Grace perfume. I think I still have some somewhere. I love eBay and I always always check there first before I buy something anywhere else. I do prefer the buy it now option as opposed to auctions. Also, if you put an item in your "watch" list I usually get and email with a discount from the Seller due to my interest. They see all!! Have fun with your new shopping!

I have made many, many purchases on eBay. I LOVE it! You can get many of the QVC's designer clothes for half of the Q price.

Very good point, i too keep lots of things in my Watched List and quite often I get a better offer from the seller.

My Ebay purchase experience has been mostly positive. At one time I even sold on Ebay (back in 2007 & 2008).

If you feel uncomfortable read reviews and return policies. They can be very helpful!

I purchase from eBay quite a bit. I always check the reviews of the seller first.
