Jewelry buying

What are your habits/preferences? Do you buy a lot of inexpensive pieces or wait and save your money to buy a signature piece? Or a combination of both? A friend of mine is addicted to CZs (when I say addicted she has well over 150 rings, bracelets and earrings) and owns a lot of Diamonique. I prefer to save and agonize over what to buy

I'm watching the Q's gem day presentations and am wondering if customers "settle" for lesser quality because it's on easy pay.

I don't buy a lot for myself (earrings mostly for myself, silver hoops usually)

My husband is a jewelry giver, and he does pretty darn good!

In fact, he just gave me the most beautiful Tiffany Limited Edition bangle bracelet for Christmas. It was from a vaulted mold that they found from the 1800's and they just released it. I LOVE it!

It is! Didn't mean to sound braggy, but I really love it.

And him, lol.

When I buy for myself, I don't $$$$pend, guilt maybe? But I have no trouble when he buys it for me.

Not braggy at all. It was a gift. Who doesn't talk about gifts, especially Tiffany gifts

Nice gift Marianne. I buy according to the stone and the setting. Right now I am loving gemstones. I have diamonds but love color. Depends on what you mean buy saving up for an expensive piece...what is expensive(exclusive?) to me may not be to you.

Like right now they are showing gemstones on QVC...I rarely buy from them because I think their settings lean towards thin and unimaginative settings.

I like one of a kind if I can find them or have them created. I don't use flex pay and save up to pay cash.

I don't really need anymore jewelry. I have my 2 rings that I wear all of the time (one is a three stone diamond ring and the other is an anniversary ring) I tend to put on pearl earrings or diamond studs. I do wear different bracelets, but I have pearls, tennis bracelet or I make my own using petoskey stones, freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals.

I went on a jewelry shopping bonanza here 12- 15 years ago when they had fabulous gold from Italy and great prices. I was able to buy once in a lifetime pieces.... I stocked up and now need nothing. It is still fun to watch the shows though!

I meant expensive relative to the one purchasing

I have noticed today that most of the items are 4 and 5 hundred dollars! I just would not pay that for a small 14 K gold gem pendant.... not in todays market.

Not into buying jewelry, really. I wear the same pieces I have had for years. Not into diamonds or gold. Into silver.

And Antonelle keeps saying how much gold is in each ring. Most of those rings were very thin and had open galleries.

Has anyone sold a ring with gemstones in it? It is a rare occurrence where you get more than a few dollars for anything but the gold. Only name brands...Cartier, Tiffany's, Roberto Coin etc have high resale value. I seriously doubt a garnet ring costing over $500 is not excessively inflated in price.

First let me say that the prices today are outrageous. I know everything has gone up..but really.

Most of the items I have seen today are just buttugly. Sorry but that's how I feel. I am a stone person..I like a setting that shows off the stone(s)...not all this surrounded by cheap black or white zircon, they add nothing.

I much prefer quality over quantity when it comes to jewelry. 90% of my jewelry is yellow gold, with the remainder being white gold, platinum or a bit of sterling and an even smaller amount of costume jewelry. I used to have a lot of QVC jewelry that was given to me by an elderly great aunt. While the gifts were certainly generous, they weren't my style at all and shortly after she passed away I sold most of it and reinvested the proceeds in a few new pieces that I love.
