Are your LED bulbs losing brightness? I have five Feit LED floodlight bulbs in recessed ceiling light fixtures in my kitchen. The bulbs are three or four years old and are supposed to last ten years. Lately, the bulbs don't look as bright to me as they used to look. When I first installed them the kitchen was much brighter. Do you notice any of your LED bulbs doing the same thing?

Maybe they need to be cleaned? Light bulbs in the kitchen get dirty from cooking.

Unlike the old light bulbs that just went out, LEDs dim with age and die a long slow death. They do last years but not anywhere near 10 in my experience.

@Mindy D

Like many, I have all LED lights, both inside and outdoor floods. Even though my eyesight may be diminishing with age, my bulbs are as bright as when I installed them. If they are a bright high Kelvin, I would certainly be aware if that was diminishing.

I agree with the poster that said "everything in the kitchen gets dusty/dirty over time". Depending on where recessed lighting is, in the kitchen can have a coating or film over them.

Incandescent lights might be different because they produce heat that might eliminate, or prevent this. LED bulbs do not produce heat. The only issue I have had with some LED's is they just plain quit working.

hckynut

Yes, LED bulbs dim as they age. If you read the "fine print" the life of the bulbs is based on them being used three hours a day!

The two 100 watt equivalent Sylvania's used most, purchased 8 years ago, are still bright as new. They should since they were $50 each at Lowes, back then.

One is used on my desk around 12 hours daily. The other on at dusk, off around 11 pm everyday.

I used a Luminara candle 24 hours a day for around 5 years when it began dimming.

Maybe the brand has something to do with why they aren't lasting as long as expected.

Yes, all LED bulbs will lose brightness over time. I guess frequently used lighting fixtures should have bulbs changed as often as needed.

I recently switched out the LEDs on a floor lamp.
