Does Excessive Humidity Make You....

feel krappy?

I was awake all night (couldn't shut my pea brain off). I finally dozed for 2 hrs. from 6 to 8 this am.

The humidity is terrible and I feel awful. I think it is 80% weather and 20% lack of sleep. I have a big glass of ice water and I just put an ice pack at the base of my spine. It helps but yikes we have several more days of this. Heat is ok, it's summer, but humidity, no. Even my joints aren't happy.

To those in this weather pattern, how are you feeling?

That's why I won't move south. (I'm in the NE). We're entering our 2nd heat wave of the season and the humidity is off the charts today. I just stay at home in the A/C so it doesn't bother me, although I'm not that fond of how A/C feels either.

oh my goodness,I have a twin out there.i feel the exact same way.it does terrible things to my hair.i get very crabby,and my sleep is terrible.i live in a townhome where my bedroom is on the 2nd floor and of course,heat rises,so it may be freezing downstairs,it's much warmer upstairs.i always count on a higher electri bill in the summer months but turn heat way down in the winter

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I am a miserable person in the summer. Just take the heat or the humidity....for what it's worth...87 days until fall starts. 🍁

Here in the Northeast we had a few days of 70 degree weather during the day, in the high 40's, low 50's at night. What a treat.

Temp is 84 now at noon, going up and we will have low 90's in a few days, then back to the 80's. We always have high humidity, but nothing like Texas and Florida.

Never felt well in heat and humidity, so I hide out inside in air conditioning all summer.

Humidity saps my energy, but we have AC, and I rarely have trouble sleeping (thank goodness).

However, just going outside for brief periods makes me feel tired.

On top of that, I have naturally curly hair that explodes into a giant frizzball when exposed to humidity.

I came in from being outside watering my potted tomatoes. I felt my hair "growing" when while I watered and knew it would be like cotton candy when I got inside.

I just had to laugh when I looked in the mirror.

While it is not my favorite time of year, I do try to find something beautiful in each season and focus on that.

It's a struggle when you are hot and sweaty.

I'm asthmatic, so yeah. It's harder to breathe when the heat is accompanied by high humidity. What is sad is that we always had low humidity here (unless it's precipating or something is blowing in), that would range from the teens DOWN.

Lately, I have been seeing many days where it's from the 50s to the 70s at least. For us, that's exceedingly high and very uncomfortable for somebody like me trying to breathe.

I hate the heat anyway but it's so much more difficult when the humidity is high. I so hate that our climate here has changed so much in that we have a lot more hot weather and now higher humidity. When I was in a crossroads, a few decades ago, I contemplated moving back and decided, primarily based on the weather, to stay. Back then it was cold a LOT more than it was warm or especially hot. Now it seems like it's hot for much more of the year than it's cold.

It was 90 a week and a half ago and while really hot isn't my favorite it was tolerable. No humidity.

I told DD that I can't believe I used to live for sun and heat when I was young. A chaise lounge, bottle of suntan lotion, a cold Pepsi and I was in.

At 70 I really dislike extremes. The old body can't take it like it used to.

I live in DC suburbs and a DC native, grew up without AC so used to humidity...but as I aged less tolerance for humidity. Had window AC in first/current home, added whole house AC in early 70's and never looked back. I spend most of the humid summer indoors, out only to run errands...humidity here is oppressive! Love and look forward to the magnificent Fall season...hooray! Favorite time of year is Fall!

Thank goodness here in California we have very low humidity, can't even tell when it is humid.
When we go anyway where it's humid my curly hair is a twenty feet high etc.
I do sleep hot. We have the ceiling fan on med, a tower oscillating fan, I just got a personal A/C sits on my bedside table aimed at my face, you can just put cold water & add ice. You can get it on Amazon for $30 I highly recommend one for everyone.

To answer your specific question! No, the weather(humidity) does not make me feel "krappy"! It does however effect almost every human body's ability to cool itself.

Having spent several decades in physical activities, I read a lot and went to many Clinics, given my Exercise Physiologists, on how humidity effects both normal and strenuous activities.

I learned the Physiological reasons for this, along with the best ways to combat it. More easily done under indoor controlled circumstances. Outdoors, only your dress /temperature/wind direction and velocity, can do much to help.

As I have mentioned ad nauseam here, I worked in 100+° temperatures for over 25 years. Then went home and ran many miles in the heat exercising on the streets or super hot asphalt tracks.

I believe, even at my present age, my body's ability to acclimate most of my younger life, to these hot/humid conditions, is similar to "muscle memory" for those that spent much of their lives training them. They are familiar with how to best react to adverse conditions, and that has proven to still be beneficial to my body.

It saps my energy when I walk outside, but I run the AC inside. Even so, last year we ran a dehumidifier for our asthmatic cat and my husband was amazed at the amount of water it got our of the air in our air conditioned house (in one big room). I think I had it set at 50% humidity. I'm fairly cold natured, so I keep the AC temp up fairly high in summer.

I have air conditioning so I never feel the humidity. On the nights when we decide not to use the ac but it's humid, we sleep with the fan on. I wouldn't get any sleep either if I had to sleep under the conditions you describe. I'd wake up exhausted, dehydrated with headache. Have you considered a window air conditioner for your room.

Me too! I'm in MA but the days when we only got a few 90 degree days in the summer and humidity wasn't a big problem are gone. I did enjoy those few days of 70ish Temps we had but it's 86 now and it's back to the 90s for a week. I close the blinds, keep the ac on 73 and I don't go out in the daytime. I go out in the evenings. My daughter calls it a vampire lifestyle. LOL

I can’t deal with higher humidity either. My chiro says people really start hurting in this kind of weather and I know that I do. My hair also grows with the humidity; it’s crazy.

Fortunately, it will be back down into the 70’s for highs later this week and lower dewpoints.

No - I have a small apartment and the window air conditioner keeps it cool enough to be comfortable. I have fans to keep the air circulating .

Nothing keeps me from sleeping. I'm a world class sleeper!

This morning I saw a heat advisory come over the Weather Bug ... until Tuesday night.

I had a few things on my agenda to do tomorrow - and when I saw the forecast for the next few days - quickly got dressed and took care of things this morning. Just three stops - total of six blocks round trip.

Lots of people out on the street - and at the supermarket.
