Credit Cards and updating Income

Lately, I have been requested by more than one credit card to update my income every time I log in. I see no reason to do this. I gave them income information when I opened the accounts and I have paid my balance, usually in full, every month. That's all they need to know about my income. They like to say it's because they might want to give me an increase in my credit limit, but I don't want or need an increase and, in fact, a couple of my credit cards have actually decreased my credit limit because my spending habits indicate I don't need it. Or, at least that was the claim when they decreased it.

Capitol One wouldn't let me bypass. This was when I was going into my account info, not responding to an e-mail.

My cards are all older accounts and I don't know actually what income they have.

They do keep upping the credit limit to eye popping amounts and send me offers for this and that.

Since covid my spending has gone way down to laughable amounts. So I am waiting for them to lower something 🤔

I get that request all the time too, I ignore it as well. I don't want my credit limits increased, I never spend up to my current limit & I pay the balance due in full every month. There have been times I've called to decrease the credit limit.

@Still Raining I don't know what I gave them for income either or I would just tell them it's the same. I'm retired now and really don't have what would be considered income. I don't yet get social security. But, my husband lets me know every year at tax time that I definitely do have an income.

So what do you do when they will not allow you to see your account. This is angering me. I also pay my account in full once a month. I like to use one card and I have a back up but it is easy for me to get another. I thought I would just change but if everyone is doing it then what?

I have never had them deny access to my account.

I bypass it too. LOL!!! If they need to know they can look it up. They want it so they can raise your credit limit. I don't need any of mine raised. I have never used up to the limit on any of them anyways so who cares.

I would imagine today they are trying to find out whose income has dropped due to job loss or who no longer has a job?

As long as I pay my bill in full each month what's it matter.

I would ignore it. If I could not ignore it, and they insist on getting the info, I would fill in some outrageous amount. My feeling is, as long as you are paying on time every month, it is none of their business.

The other thing that's driving me crazy is the push to go to Paperless billing. I always opt out, but whenever I log into my Rakuten card account it says it WILL soon be changing to paperless and there is no opt-out shown. I use a different E-mail account for all of my online activities than I do for my friends and family because I know online activities draws so much trash e-mails even from the sites you do business with. So, an E-mail with my billing info could easily get lost or even be sent to the Spam folder. I have a basket in my bedroom where I place my bills with the date due and amount written on the outside of the envelope so I can see it as I walk by. Sometimes I need to subtract out an amount that my husband or even a friend needs to pay and I can put those amounts on the outside of the envelope also so I can "bill" them for their part of the bill and it's easy to keep up with it that way. That's what works for me.

i still prefer getting paper bills also......so far i have been able to opt in to keep receiving all of them. who knows how long that will last though?

It is beyond weird when you are retired, your husband has died and you are too young for SS. They kept trying to put me on Medicaid. Keep telling them to check my assets.
