At almost 14, she sleeps most of the day. She does have health issues and we are grateful for each day with her.

Forgive me, MamaWick, but I could not help thinking of the actor Smiley Burnette after reading your name for this buck. I believe the buck was smiling at you and your generous nature.

I'm older than you, but Smiley Burnette was in the classic cowboy movies of my youth.

You know what I saw today?

A squirrel that I thought had a nut in its mouth but it turned out to be a tiny baby squirrel! I have never seen that before now! It was about the size of

a peanut! I wondered why it wasn't in the nest unless the mom needed to move it to a safer place or something.

I hope so as well. Living in the woods I have seen a lot.

The big hedge that grows against the deck is very thick. DH cut areas into the hedge so we can see the inner branches. We have had many families of birds and watched the mom sit on the eggs and the tiny mouths as well. One day, a group were being given "flying lessons" on the deck railing which hangs over the driveway on one side.

One little fellow went over the edge down to the drive way and mom gave him the riot act! She gave him everything she was thinking!

He did make it back up-finally.

I call that hedge "The Crib".

Ahhh, how I missed seeing these beautiful pics while a friend from Minnesota was visiting with me. And he sure was glad to get on that plane today after suffering with our horrible heat and humidity! Ugh!

Smiley is just so adorable and precious! A very handsome guy!!

@MamaWick Wonderful pictures! I am amazed at how quickly the buck's antlers grow. They are like the grass in my lawns.

Woofs and gentle hugs to sweet Cricket. What are her birthday plans? Naps are always good along with kisses, belly rubs, and lots of loving. A special snack is good too.

I started thinking about how these animals are hunted all the time (it makes me sick). The only exception I give for hunting is if your family is hungry. Otherwise you have no business killing innocent animals because you want to shoot a gun.
