Aldi's size?

Aldi's is moving into our area and the store to be opened nearby will be in a former Dress Barn. I was surprised that it would be such a small space. Is that typical for Aldi's?

There are several stores in my area. They range from the size of a big convience store to supermarket big.

they are not big stores,

but you can save a lot of money shopping there and it's good

eggs were 69/doz last trip we made

It depends. But most of the Aldi's I have shopped have been much smaller than a typical grocery store.
Aldi's offers a limited number of products.

Some Aldis have great produce; others do not. Produce quality is the main issue for me when choosing a market.

We just got one in our area and I was shocked to see how small it is, the size of a 7-11 or gas station type convenience store.

They must be packed in like the Big Lots stores are, but this Aldi's is much smaller than our Big Lots.

The first Aldi I ever shopped was small, dimly lit, felt thrown together with lots of products still in packing boxes, too much produce that looked as if it had been in some ther store for a week or more. That store was a 16 mile round trip for me. Do I need to tell you if I went there once a year that was enough?

Now there's a newish larger store near me, clean and bright, definitely not a huge store, but more reasons to shop it because they. do have some bargains. I still don't go often -- there are 5 Publix, a Winn-Dixie, a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe, and 2 large gourmet markets closer to home. Even Target and Costco and a huge ethnic market are closer. Way more choice than I need!

We have several Aldi. But I'd rather shop at Wegmans.

Aldi's are typically at least a third of the size of a regular grocery store. They carry about less than a third of the products. Some can be very hit or miss. Some good prices can be found. But not always.

Last time I bought eggs, couple weeks ago, I paid $1.69 a dozen. I think their prices fluctuate regionally.

My main reason for going is when they have produce at a good price, and to see what new or specialty items they get in.

And if yours are like the ones by me, don't be surprised if there is only one register open while there are long lines with full carts.

I would say our Aldi's is medium size - definitely bigger than a Dress Barn but way smaller than a traditional grocery store. I personally don't understand the attraction to Aldi's and Lidl's. I always feel like they bought leftovers from somewhere and they don't have a lot of any one product. I do know people who absolutely love those stores. I'll stick with Stop and Shop, King Kullen, Shop Rite, Stew Leonard's and Trader Joe's. I wish they'd bring a Wegman's to my area and then I'd be in grocery store heaven.

Aldi's is to far to drive when I have Costco, Bashas, Frys (Kroger), Safeway, Sprouts, 3 Walmart's, Sams Club, Trader Joe's all without a 5 mile drive.

Aldi's in my town is convenient, has very fresh cheaper produce, good lunch meat, cheap but good wine.

Bread, eggs, creamer ice cream all cheaper and good.
If something is bad and you return it your money is refunded and you get another.
The lines are fast and if crowded they open another line.
I shop the military commissary monthly and Aldi or small Wallmart in between.

Thanks everyone for all of the great Aldi's information! Sounds as if there is some variation, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what this one is like. It will be very close, but I do like my grocery stores spacious and well lit so we'll see. I'd be more excited if a Publix were coming my way.

Aldi's has had absolutely no stores in this geographical region, but is now coming in with quite a few stores along the Gulf Coast.

I have been in an Aldi's twice and swore I would never go back. I just got a $5.00 coupon in the mail today so I will go in this week and see if my opinion has changed.

I too like to be in Publix but to me their prices are NUTS and now that I am retired and on a fixed income, it is all about the dollars and cents for me.

I am always sad to hear that some Aldi stores are not as nice as mine. Ours is just several years old and has already been remodeled. It is very clean and tidy.

The produce is great and they carry a lot of organic. I love to shop there. I cannot buy everything there, but they have great items. Absolutely no leftovers from anywhere else and they carry a complete supply of their items. They have their own brands and some name brands.

Their items are always fresh as our store does a lot of business.

They're smaller because they seldom stock more than one variety of each product. Some items are the national brand but have been packaged using the Aldi brand, pepperoni for example.

The one near me does well so the produce hasn't a chance to get stale. Green grapes are $0.75 a lb this week, peaches $0.99 a lb.
