American Community Survey 2021?

Hi, Last year 2020 I received a questionnaire to fill out and I think everyone had to do it. I did it and sent it in. Now last week I received an United States American Community Survey to fill out either online or they said they will sent a paperform in the mail. I went on line to see what the questions would be and it seems just like the form I filled out late last year but added questions about sexuality.

Has anyone else received this form? I am so afraid it is no legitimate and would be giving out info to someone else. You can't be to careful today with all of the Fraud going on. It does say U.S. Census Bureau Washington, D.C. bottom signed by Steven D Dillingham. Thanks

Here's what it says online: The American Community Survey is a legitimate survey conducted by the CensusBureau. Unlike the every-10-year census, this survey continues all year, every year. We randomly sample addresses in every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

I'm not sure I'd complete it though.

@cuddlesmama - I did not receive any type of form to fill out last year. The only thing done was the Census information and that was done online.

I would toss it.

If you were able to find the information that it's a legitimate survey then you also would have read that it's required to fill it out.

What happens if I don't fill out the American Community Survey?

Those who decline to complete the survey may receive visits to their homes from Census Bureau personnel. Because it is a mandatory survey, it is governed by federal laws that could impose a fine of as much as $5,000 for refusing to participate. To date, no person has been prosecuted for refusing to answer the ACS.

I just searched this survey online and it looks like a valid survey, required by law with a penalty for noncompliance. Having said that, this is the first time I've ever heard about it. I don't think we've received it but, depending on what it looked like, we might have thrown it away thinking it was a scam. If the Census Bureau wants to send someone to our house to obtain our input, so be it.

I never received the Community Survey in the mail. No one has ever come to the house to obtain information, either. The only one I filled out was the original Census online.

The last time I got one, I started to fill it out. Than it began asking for numbers I didn't know off the top of my head and would have had to look up, like amounts paid for property taxes and for heating bills. I set it aside and never came back to it.

I received forms with the cenus of 2010. This was before the online days. I filled out the forms to the best of my ability and sent them back.

If I remember, I was asked about my community and what was needed to make it better.

Someone is asking you about your neighborhood.

I have never heard of this survey. Sounds intrusive and like an invasion of privacy. I would just pretend I never got it.

I remember getting one of these in the past. The questions were geared more toward local conditions and issues. I filled it out and sent it back.

The survey provides current data about all communities every year, rather than once every 10 years. It is sent to a small percentage of the population on a rotating basis throughout the decade. No household will receive the survey more often than once every five years.

Information from the survey generates data that help determine how more than $675 billion in federal and state funds are distributed each year.

When you respond to the ACS, you are doing your part to help your community plan for hospitals and schools, support school lunch programs, improve emergency services, build bridges, and inform businesses looking to add jobs and expand to new markets, and more.

To me, the sexuality questions lessen the credibility (even if required by law) so if I were to fill it out my responses would be 'none of your business!!'

I would probably answer the same way or maybe answer "don't know." What does that question have to do with community planning? Some of the other questions might be OK, but the government tends to get nosy at times.

I handle affirmative action obligations for my company and use the data from the American Community Survey for things that are not covered by the US Census. It is useful to all companies as a way to compare the surrounding recruiting area for each of our locations to our company to establish benchmarks.

Other businesses use this information for other things to understand the makeup of the community around them where they plan to put a retail store, as an example.

I have neither, but for the same reason, I pay a good deal of school tax.

During the long pandemic shut down,

so many here expressed Major, Repeated concern

that we needed to re-open schools, etc. Right away

because so many children were being Abused at home.

Now people don’t seem know why there might be sexuality concerns to address in our communities?
