There is a thread about Prince Phillip's passing in the Amoung Friends forum, and I'll say here what I said there.

My condolences goes out to the Queen, Prince Charles, and everybody in the Royal family.

99 is a long life.

A great love story, with a life well lived. Definitely one for the storybooks, or a Hallmark movie. What a unique relationship they shared.

There's no doubt this will be personally very difficult for the Queen, while also changing the family dynamics.

I, too, had hoped the Prince would make it to 100. He was almost there. RIP loyal Prince Philip.

This is about the passing of Prince Philip. Nothing else matters. If this turns into another round of H&M, this thread will poof.

Out of respect could we just for once express sympathy for the Queen-I'm sure she is heart-broken.

The rest doesn't matter.

He was quite a handsome man and lived a life of service and dedication to Elizabeth.

Very sad to hear the news of his passing, but glad it was peaceful and he was at home. He would have turned 100 years old in June. The news just said there would be no large funeral or other gatherings due to Covid restrictions in the UK. I am sure many Brits want a chance to pay their respects; perhaps they will have another way to do so in the future. Right now they are asking the public not to place flowers, candles, or other things at Windsor castle or other places due to the crowds it would encourage. Harry will be flying back to the UK as the Covid restrictions that include the 10 day quarantine may be relaxed for him. Meghan will not be attending due to her pregnancy.

I can’t imagine losing a husband of 73 years. I am sure the Queen is floundering in her heart at this moment. We should pray for her to have strength and courage, and I am sure she will.

His funeral will be a small family service at St George's Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle before the duke is buried in Frogmore Gardens, where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were laid to rest. The date has not been set.

More details will emerge in the next few days, with the plan nicknamed 'Operation Forth Bridge', but the public have already been urged to stay away to avoid spreading Covid-19 and watch it on TV at home instead. A state funeral including a flotilla of boats on the Thames to mark her husband's life looks impossible due to covid restrictions, but the Duke was said to have disliked the idea because he 'didn't want the fuss'.

@lovesrecess In addition to the COVID reason, Prince Philip stated he wanted "no fuss" when he died.
