I had a little fun yesterday !

I'm sure a lot of you are aware of that SS scam. I get several calls a day and usually I don't answer my phone but since there is a pandemic and some days are pretty boring I decided to answer a call yesterday. I did this once before and they gave me the exact same story. So I pressed 1 after the initial recorded message and got a guy with some kind of accent and he proceeded to tell me that an abandoned car was found on the side of the road somewhere in Texas and there was blood on the seat and my SS information was found. He asked for my SS# and I gave him a fictious #, name and birthdate (which he put me on hold, came back and said he confirmed my info) He then told me there was a warrant for my arrest for drugs and money laundering and the police were on their way to arrest me. I said WHAT ?? and acted very disturbed. He bought it of course and then I asked if I could say something, he said ok, AND THEN I LET HIM HAVE IT !! I told him I know it's a scam, said a few curse words, told him to get a real job and hung up !! I'm sure he's heard it before but I enjoyed it

Loved your story. I let all callls go the answering machine for that reason. Thank you for sharing!

If you are referring to blowing a whistle into the phone to blast their eardrum that's a great idea, also banging the phone on a metal pan

Good story. I now screen all calls, but in the past if I answered a scam call I would just sing as soon as I realized what it was. With my voice, they'd hang up in a instant.

I put the TV on mute. Then I click over and eventually I get a busy single meaning they hung up.

Sometimes, if I’m in a bad mood I’ll just start pushing buttons over and over and (well you get the message.

Sometimes I’ll just take the phone off the hook and place a pillow over it.

We all have our ways.

I get very pest when they call my cell phone. That’s when I block their number.

I like to play with them also. I pretend I'm old and a bit confused. I lead them on and then say oh oh I forgot to turn the burner off then lay the phone down for a minute or so. They stay on because they think they have the perfect victim. It wastes their time so less calls they can make - plus it's fun!! It's fun to see how long I can keep them on the line.

You guys are too funny , i accidently called an 800 number , and the girl would not shut up talking at 100 times the normal speed , to get me to say yes to some scam , i yelled NO several times before hanging up . I can't imagine having a job like that , it would be so demeaning.

I love to answer the scam calls & “play” with them .... some of them get really mad & curse me out while I laugh right in the phone .... I have noticed that I get fewer calls than before..🙃🙂

I did something similar but it kind of backfired. I had gotten about 6 scam calls one morning and the 7th one was the straw that broke the camel's back so I answered it then yelled at the guy and told him to STOP CALLLING THIS #$*&# NUMBER!!! For the next 3 hours I kept getting calls every 20 minutes. Twice I answered and it was that guy making ghostly noises like you'd hear in a horror movie or he would laugh in a diabolical manner. Finally, he stopped but I never tried that again. If I do answer and it's a scam call I just hang up.

But I admit, I would like to turn the tables on the scams that want money to get your grandson out of jail. At first I would pretend to be concerned and ask what happened but then I would tell them I wouldn't pay and that the kid could stay in jail to learn a lesson. HA! ( P.S. I do not have a grandson.)

I have always thought if I get one of those scam calls about a grandchild, I would ask which one (I have no grandchildren) cuz I have some I don't like.

I got a telemarketing call one time and the girl actually yawned in the middle of her sentence so I said "If that is all the excited you are about this, imagine how I feel" and hung up.

Also had another one who was "verifying" my address (I live in South Dakota) and he said "I show your address as Sioux Falls San Diego" So I said "I have been out of school for a long time. I didn't even know that San Diego was a state now". Got him so flustered that he ended up hanging up on me

I know it's tempting especially when you're bored, but the best way to handle those scam calls is to ignore them. Seriously.

I have a good friend that received one of these calls back when this type of call first started when they just automatically went into the spiel when you answered the phone. They told her the police were on the way to arrest her. To which she replied oh thank goodness, I need help here. Please make sure they come quickly. The guy told her this was serious business. She told him she was serious business and then told him she had to go in order to get dressed in order to meet the police when they showed up. lol

Before I had caller ID and I got one of those callls, I would just hang up without saying anything. Sometimes they would call back and attempt to cuss me out but I would just hang up again. It's better not to engage these people, even though it might be fun. It only encourages them. Now, if I don't recognize the number, I don't answer the phone. Now on both my cell and landline, calls are identified as "Spam Risk", so that makes it easier. One thing that I find funny is that if the call goes to voice mail, sometimes the person will start their spiel not realizing they aren't actually speaking to a live person. They're not too bright!
