For those that have had a COVID vaccine

If you are not over 65 or have major health issues and have received the vaccine for whatever reason, work category or leftover shots or whatever, do you feel reluctant to share with others that you received it?

DH and I are close to 65 (within 2-3 years) and had the good fortune to get leftover vaccines this week. Our family is aware, but I'm not sure I feel comfortable sharing it with friends who aren't as fortunate.

Why do you feel like you have to share? Just keep it to yourself. I don't share my medical info with anyone.

@rms1954 Because I talk to my friends and they ask what is new. If I had been diagnosed with cancer, I would certainly tell them.

@rms1954 Because I think there is potential guilt for the person who was fortunate enough to get the vaccine and shaming for those who weren't.

I guess I also don't understand the need to mention it. Of course I also wouldn't mention a cancer diagnosis until I knew the extent and treatment. That's me. I don't believe it's necessary to tell friends everything. Even really close friends.

When asked if there's anything new I'm sure there are other subjects to discuss. Gardening you're looking forward to, hike in price of dairy products, whether to have ham or lamb for Easter dinner, pet issues, etc...

Some subjects seem controversial to some, why introduce those topic?

The feeling of guilt is very common. Some questions we will not be able to answer. I can not say why I am still here one year later. I just say a prayer for everyone. The people who have lost lives and the friends and family members left behind.

I pray for people who will not wear a mask.

I received my first dose of the vaccine on Wednesday. I will get my second dose in April.

Hello, I understand your hesitation. There seems to be some concern about "vaccine envy" as some folks were able to receive their shots earlier than others, and there were many stories about people who were trying to "cut in line" inappropriately.

However, now that the vaccines are more readily available and many states are opening up the lists, you should feel perfectly comfortable sharing the news.

Many people are interested in how one's body reacted to the vaccine experience, and therefore may want to ask questions about the process. There have been several threads about this on the Q forums.

I have NOT had my vaccine yet, and may have to wait another month or two, but my nieces are in the medical profession and received theirs when the vaccines were first available, DH is in the education field and received both his shots this month, DM just received her first shot as she needed assistance registering and traveling.

So I am patient, but happy for family members and friends that are now protected, and looking forward to the U.S. moving toward herd immunity.

Some friends they are if they don't appreciate your good fortune. You say you got the end of day Leftovers, nothing illegal in that. Why wouldn't you share that information so maybe others could try that approach too? Are you sure you're not expecting " Shaming FROM your friends? You can either tell them or continue to stress.

Say what????? What are you talking about??? You got "left-over" vaccines? What the heck is that about?

Everyone in our state knows the age/work "groupings" to get the vaccine. If someone asks if we had reactions/side effect, we'll tell them.

@Cats3000 - leftover doses are also known as end of day doses. Doses that were unused at pharmacies because of no shows. People either make appts. At multiple places or just don't show up for a scheduled appt.

My sister was able to get an end of day dose at her pharmacy. She called 3 weeks ago one evening and asked the pharmacist if they ever have any unused vaccines and he told her that they never throw any away and he asked her how quickly she could get there.

She got to her pharmacy less than 5 minutes later and got one of those doses. At that time, she was not in the age group they were giving vaccines to.

Vaccines are now more readily available and age requirements are lowered with each passing week (in my area). No need to feel guility - rejoice

I got my 2nd dose this Monday - Pfizer - sore arm and no other side effects

I have friends who can get it but are waffling and family who are still too young to recieve it and want it.

I just feel bad for those that want it and cannot get an appt bc it is easier to do it online and they are not tech savy.

My friends were thrilled for me when I got my 2 doses. I'm over 65 and have friends who are younger and haven't been able to get their vaccines yet.

Did you push a 90 year old down to get it? Did you sneaky under the cloak of darkness get it? Did you meet someone in a back alley and pay cash? No. You got it fair and square. Anyone with a brain would want to see the vaccine go to good use. There are times in life to feel guilty, this isn't one of them.

I agree with everyone who says to just tell your friends - why not just say what you told us? That you were fortunate to get left over doses? It may not matter anymore as eligibility is opening up, but your friends may be interested in how you did it so they could try that route too.

@Linmo I understand how you feel. I'm a few years older than you. The day vaccines were opened up here for my age group, I was able to schedule for myself and DH. After first dose, there was a discussion on here where someone mentioned how her 90+ yr old mother wasn't able to get an appt yet for the vaccine. At that point, I felt guilty.

The topic of vaccines is certainly timely. Tell whomever you feel comfortable telling. It's true that more vaccines are available every day but that also seems to differ from state to state and even between certain areas of each state. I'm glad you didn't let those vaccines go to waste.

My nosy neighbor has attempted to get that info from me a number of times. I finally told her, quite bluntly, that it's protected medical information and none of her business. She pulled the passive/aggressive "look at the ground while speaking" response of "well, if you won't tell me, I won't be able to spend any time with you". Darn. Life is full of disappointments. I've done everything I can to avoid her for years. I'll manage.

If asked, I would certainly tell. Perhaps they too, can get on the list for unused vaccines. If someone doesn't want to get it, that's their choice, but I would let others know that they may be able to get one like I did.

Now, if someone is lying about a health condition to get moved closer to the front of the line, that's another thing...shame, shame....

But by getting yours now and by using doses that may go unused and thrown away, you are helping your family, friends, and community by getting vaccinated is the way I look at it.
