Royals: Cambridge Kids Learning to Ride

If you have no interest in anything 'Royal', please feel free to pass by this thread, the title is quite clear.

It appears the Duke and Duchess's three children have taken inspiration from their great-grandmother the Queen after spending much of lockdown perfecting their riding skills on their first ponies.

Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, who is three next month, have been following in Her Majesty's footsteps and have become avid riders, according to The Times.

The trio, who have polished their abilities on their own ponies while spending time at Anmer Hall, their country home in Norfolk, will make great companions for the Queen, 94, who has been riding horses since she was just four-years-old.

They are expected to spend time with the monarch, who they affectionately call 'Gan Gan', at Windsor and Balmoral this summer, when lockdown eases. She is reportedly taking a close interest in her great-grandchildren’s progress in the saddle.

The children's increased interest in riding ponies in recent months may have helped them to cope with the loss of their cocker spaniel Lupo who died in November.

Picture #2 of William and Prince George riding was in 2016, George was only 3 at the time.

So they've been learning since an early age.

All those kids are gonna be 6 ft and over for the boys and Charlotte will probably be 5'9-5'10.

If you're up there in British society, apparently being able to play polo (the sport of kings), is an important asset and, in this case a family tradition. The whole Roydal Family is nuts over horses.

@Love my grandkids Both Anne and her daughter Zara Olympic class riders.

When I was in my 'horsey' ' days in U.K. went to Anne's estate to attend several equestrian events. Beautiful place, beautiful horses very friendly people - had lots of good days there. Nothing like these events if you are into horses.
Miss my big beautiful 'girls'/mares so much sigh.

@SharkE Oh yes they mix in, eat lunch, and we all entered in the three day eventing - I always fell off on jumping second day lol - but great fun. Best thing was you could walk, ride, eat drink, abd everyone mixed.

We always took minimum of 2 horses so again all the people riding parked separately from spectators as we were there overnight too - our horse boxes , trucks, etc., all parked together - sitting outside, partying at night great fun no-one cared 'who was who' just all friends together here for the Event.

@dulwich I must say, as an Anglophile since age 10, I often "live" vicariously through you!

I did know that Zara was an Olympic equestrienne.

I've always loved watching polo matches, the rare time when I've seen one on TV. Have read something of them in a couple of British based novels as well.

Having a horse would've been a dream come true for me as a kid! I've always loved horses but growing up in a large family in suburban NJ, there wasn't money or the pasture area for that.

I hope they enjoy their equine adventures! I loved seeing these pictures.

Picture #3 really grabs me - looks so much like a perfect family. If only. . .

But look at the way William is looking at his mother, and she at him. Pure unadulterated love! And Harry - barefoot in his father's arms. It looks like he's struggling to get loose and get on that pony too!

Sounds like a good time ! Anne, would be nice to see not much on the lessor Royals. I"d like to see the Queen, Prince Charles in person.

When I was over there yrs. ago I remember standing on a little bridge over a pond and taking pics (you would say "snaps") of Prince Charles Palace.

Marks & Spencer's I assume is still there. Harrod's too. Bought and had sent back a Royal Albert tea pot lot cheaper over there.

@Love my grandkids The horsey world is a very different world! I only got involved as my best girlfriend was 'upper crusty' so she dragged me along to all her happenings. Dragged bring the operative word as I was scared of horses - that soon changed - DH then working as consultant in Saudi and I spent all the money on horses - worth every penny dahling!

I, too, live vacariously through you

Growing up in a tiny Midwestern town of 2,500 people, my summer recreation involved sitting in a car belonging to my best friend's father.

It was parked in the hot sun and we sat for hours pretending to be driving and waving out the windows, like we were important.

I'd have much preferred to be living a life with horses and Royals

The Cambridge kids are just adorable. I love seeing them doing anything at all. What a blessing the Queen has with so many grands and great grands.

I was blessed to be owned by one, the rest of the family had to buy another one for them to ride, my stallion's heart belonged to only me and mine to him.

@KingstonsMom I am in tears lovely post. DH just said what are you crying for - miss my horses - the lovely smell of them when you cuddle up close like your picture - no smell like it wish it could be bottled !

I'm right there with you, I miss him so much, our day long excursions thru trails in the woods of our island home.

We would pack lunch for both, leave home around 8AM and try to be home at dusk.
