As of the minute that I am posting this, the IRS has not confirmed that, but it is likely they will soon, according to Bloomberg.

"Officials at the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday afternoon."

@geezerette But not the IRS (as of this minute), which would be the proper organization to say whether it is true or not. But I am sure they will respond, and they probably will extend. Makes sense. "Several sources" does not equal IRS.

True, but when one of the sources is a congressional committee "applauding the IRS decision", I'd assume it's pretty darn close to happening.

Payment for federal taxes can be delayed until May 17, when the IRS officially extends the deadline.

However, state taxes owed will still be due in April unless the state extends it. That's up to each state individually as they make their own rules.

This should make my accountant happy. He's always so slammed this time of year and if that weren't enough, he and his wife lost their house in one of the big fires here last year so they are living out of a hotel and lost all their stuff.
