Be mindful of cameras

The Zoom thread got me thinking. Tempted to look into your neighbor's window when they are gone? Scrape a car at the gas station and seak off? Grab a whatever out of a cart someone left at Walmart? Who me? you say. Just remember there are cameras everywhere. And not just public places. Some of my neighbors put out game cameras that will also pickup trespassers. I guess I watch way too many crime shows.

Hey just go to google earth and "drive" down your street and look in everyone's windows! Or even "drive" up their driveway. I couldn't believe it. Could have seen my pups if they were looking out the front window. You can go everywhere and snoop real good (if you want) with google earth. No privacy anymore.

Whenever I see on the news a home security video of a delivery person acting badly (who later gets fired), I think to myself - these delivery people need to just assume that every house has a security camera and act accordingly.

When I worked I was the late person- my hours were 10:30am to 6:30pm. I had a few patients scheduled but from 5-6pm I was the only tech in the mammography department so I always, always pretended there were cameras so no one could ask or say I'd been up to anything wrong. I know that's paranoid but that's how I was and did the same thing until the day I left. To be honest, no one knows if there's cameras or not so I try to be on my bestest wherever we might be..

We caught one behaving really badly. I was waiting on medical supplies and it said they had been delivered. Nope nothing had been delivered. My husband went back and looked and saw the driver stop in front of our home look around the back of the truck and drive off. They never came up to the house. I expect they got fired. It was very expensive insulin pump and Dexcom supplies.

ETA: I'd be more concerned about being caught eating sloppily in my car or wiping my nose improperly or scratching when I thought no one was watching. Or something being wrong with my outfit and not knowing and suddently finding myself starring on some website somewhere.

@depglass I know in stores inside and out we are always on camera, if someone is going to steal or rob someone, it is really hard to not be on film....plus your phone also gives away where ever you drive. Not easy to getaway with crime these days.

murder your wife or two........OR buy some radiator coolant to add to ice tea to poison your husband? These are all caught on credit card sales and cameras....

yes, I watch a lot of shows too😄

@Puppy Lips Unless that camera is pointed down into your yard-meaning is it only capturing movement in your yard-it is perfectly acceptable.

Our front door camera captures our walkway but also my neighbor's walkway, being close. It has already picked up somebody snooping around his front door. (Our front door is recessed and on the side of the house so our walkways touch.)

He gives a little wave now and then. LOL

Your neighbor's camera coud very well end up capturing a crime on your property.

@itsmagic One of my neighbors was ticked at someone who let their dog poop on his grass...he showed the video of the incident and the face of neighbor walking the dog on the local neighborhood group online page...everyone knew who it was! 😳

I have a lot of cameras all around my house, mostly outside. Where I live all of the houses sit on 1 acre lots.

I back up to lots of woods (as do the neighbors on both sides).

I most pick up deer passing by. A few cats, possums and so on. It's fun to look at all the animals roaming out at night.

They are mostly Blink cameras. They make a sound when recording and the animals look right into the cameras.

One of my favorite times was when a large woodpecker tried to eat the camera. The camera caught the entire face, tongue, eyes, everything of the woodpecker. It was amazing.

I have the ring camera on the front door.

I can turn the Blink cameras off and on, which I sometimes do in the house or if the wind sets a particular one on a lot.

I just automatically delete the cameras that pick up people I know coming to my house. I feel like I'm peeping on them and it gives me the creeps. I think it's disrepectful to sit and watch them.

@Puppy Lips I understand. Most neighbors around here do have cameras-some elaborate, some simply small Ring cameras.

It's too bad he isn't a nice neighbor, though.

There is always one, isn't there.

Just a bit of info. My Dad’s neighbor drilled large holes in the wooden fence Dad had placed around his back yard. They then attached a trellis which was totally supported by the fence. The male neighbor is a former police officer who threatens to call out his buddies if he doesn’t like something. I don’t like people who threaten my Dad.

I had the local magistrate check it out, and neighbor was required to remove trellis and replace that section of fence to previous standard.

Do you own the fence? Not the same situation at all, Just a thought.

@Drythe The fence is not ours, and technically I don't think it is his either, though it goes around his yard. It is supposed to be maintained by our Homeowners association, which is a whole other drama. I would not dream of drilling a hole in a fence that was not mine. And I can not believe (though I should) that a police officer would do that to your Dad. Glad you got involved and put him in his place!

Plant a large tree or put a large birdhouse on a tall pole in front of it. We planted a tree to block a very nosy neighbor once.

I would not have taken this SO far if the neighbor had not previously cut down a row 3 of dwarf Cedars my Dad planted on his own property, about 40” from neighbors driveway. They interfered when neighbor turned wide to steer his HUGE truck into his drive, so he said. He also cut down a Crepe Myrtle way on my Dad’s lot, which he said blew leaves onto his truck. I know this because both times I asked him. My Dad is 93, very reasonable, not looking for fights.

Don't dare drive or walk around your neighborhood wearing a hoodie. Everyone now has a doorbell camera and every soul outside is a suspect. A local merchant was putting hangers on doorknobs advertising his business and some paranoid busy body reported him to the police who went to his home to interrogate him.

I bet the cops are sick to death of this kind of stuff. Yell "wolf" too many times and soon no one will pay any attention.
