We are in North East Arizona and currently have thunder snow; I've never seen that before!

I live in Illinois and we have had it a few times. It is definitely eerie.........

Right now, we are bitterly cold and the wood in my outdoor deck is sometimes creaking quite loudly!

I have lived where that occurred. It's not the usual happening. Snow and cold weather, nonetheless.

I'm in St. Louis and will never forget the thunder snow storm we had in 1982...something like 15 inches! Everything was buried! Hope you don't get that extreme!

At 70 yrs young, I've only seen/heard thunder snow once during a once in a lifetime snow blizzard. It was the year So. Joisey got 2 1/2 feet of snow in 24 hrs.

@patbz. We had it in the Albuquerque area about 6:30pm along with rain but I didn't have either at my house. It preceeded the cold front. I'd love some rain.

I'm originally from Chicago, and it is not uncommon there....... Also rain showers happen while the sun is shining.

Thunder snow! Big Fat flakes coming down like the Dickens AND thunder! It's odd, but I could swear the lightning flash has a tinge of PINK. Enjoy the show and have a safe clean up after!

I live in upper MI and thunder snow is a normal occurrence. It is a cool phenomenon tho.

@LuvmyLab Look up Jim Cantore from the weather channel experiencing "thundersnow" on youtube. You will get a good taste of what it is!!

We've had it in New England but it doesn't happen often. It's actually pretty awesome.

We've had thundersnow in Western NY at least 2 times that I remember. The first was in November of 2000, just before Thanksgiving and the second was the October Surprise of 2006. They were both weird occurences but the October Surprise was horrible. All night long all you heard was thunder and lightening, cracking trees. The trees still had all their leaves and the added weight of the snow destroyed many trees. Thousands were without power, some for weeks. The strangest thing about that storm was that since it was still October, the temperatures rose quickly and by the end of the weekend, all the snow melted and all that was left was the devastation left by the storm.

We have it during blizzards. It is unusual, but yes lightning does happen.

I don't know what it is but I was born and raised in So California and I am now housebound in the PNW because of Covid and the snow....
