I have read many posts here about problem pets and it seems people suggest no kill shelters. PLEASE visit them before you recommend them.

See what I learned as a volunteer for years. No kill means life in cage with no attention. Yes, there may be exceptions but where?

I was at one good shelter until it was shut down due to financial issues.

I then volunteered at another shelter and it was the worst, a no kill , but the animals were dying of neglect.

And now that no kill is in the news for returning dogs to the most horrendous case of animal abuse ever. (the elderly sick but rich lady wanting the shelties back is paying off the owner and I know this to be true as he was pocketing donations when I was there) Unfortunately he has ties to big wigs and there is no way to get him out.

Please check out save the shelties in NY on facebook and sign to help these poor dogs.

The name of the shelter is the Hudson valley humane society, No connection to the real humane society. Anyone can use the name humane society. So do your research.

Anyway, If you have a pet you cant care for remember you took the responsibility of it and if you cant deal with it a no kill or any shelter probably cant either. So don't give up until you must, and at that point if you cant find a new home, euthanasia with you the one it knows and loves.. at its side may be the kindest answer.

I had to vent after all I have seen.
