I was just wondering . . . .

I used to buy a lot of clothing and make-up from QVC. I haven't worn face make-up since the pandemic started. What's the use of putting on face make-up and then putting a mask over it. Our casinos in Michigan just opened back. Before the pandemic we used to go to the casino at least twice a week. Now we don't go at all. The local news gives a daily tally of the virus infections and deaths. It's not worth getting sick by going to the casino. Our restaurants are carry out only - no inside dining. Even when they do open up with limited seating we won't go. I stopped buying clothing and am clearing out a lot of clothes from my closets. I have three walk-in closets so there are a lot of clothes. We only go to the drug store or grocery store. I can't foresee this virus going away or even slowing own a lot. When I see thousands of an item being sold whether it be cosmetics or clothing I wonder, are most people going to restaurants, department stores, etc. regardless of their health? I'm just curious to know why people are buying such items if they aren't going about business as it used to be.

Not eveyrone is able to stay home. Some of us have to go to work everyday.

Our malls, home improvement and big box stores were busy through the holidays. Like you, we try to minimize contact and have only been grocery shopping. We've had some carryout food and curbside pickup at the library. As far as clothing, I wear lounge wear everywhere I go.

Some people want to buy new things and new clothes, regardless.

In many places restaurants are indeed open albeit at reduced capacity. So why not wear something new.

If someone is working or has stable income, I don't find it odd that they are still consumers of all sorts of goods.

I understand that there are still a lot of people that have to leave their home everyday to go to work. A lot of my neighbors can't work from home. My daughter is a nurse and works with Covid infected people everyday. She stopped telling me what's it like because it's heartbreaking that people die everyday. If you do have to leave your home for work, please be safe.

I want to support the economy as best as I can, i.e, take out from local restaurants, shopping for clothes, etc. so, yes, I continue to shop and enjoy my purchases. They are a bright spot in my life at the moment.

We go out at least weekly (sometimes more often) to indoor dining. We get our hair cut monthly, we've been to the movies, We go shopping at Costco, Walmart, groceries, Target etc. I go to the gym also. We do seem to go out a bit less often but we are still going out and about. No problems. I'm not staying home to vegetate.

I don't consider being a consumer a negative. Bravo to everyone with the means to buy, consume and spend. Many can not, but many can.

I think everything by me is open. Restaurants at reduced capacity but they've been open since the summer. Stores,malls, gyms, etc. Commuter traffic is the same as it was before all this happened.

I've been working from home since March and never go anywhere except an occasional trip to pick up takeout or go to the grocery store but I still am buying cosmetics and a few items of clothing. I still wear makeup every day, doesn't matter that I'm not going anywhere. It makes me feel good and feel more normal.

I don't go out to eat but hardly did before all this. I have changed the things I purchase because what's the point in new shoes and purses and nice clothes if the only place I go is to pickup groceries. Well it saves me a bunch of money for now and may become a habit. I still wear makeup just to feel good. Not everyday but I didn't before either.

I don't get dressed and put on makeup, do my hair, etc for anyone but myself. Soooo, I haven't changed a thing about my daily routine because of the pandemic. My mental state is derived from my life being as normal as possible. I have friends and neighbors who have fallen into deep depression due in part to hanging around the house dressed sloppy etc because they never go out of the house. I think pride in your self has a huge inpact on your mental state and I intend to continue as usual no matter whats happening in the world. I walk my dog daily, and go where ever I need to and try to mantain a normal life minus the fun lunches etc. Just as a by-the-way...I'm 81 yrs old.

A really significant portion of the population is still working, and never stopped. They still go out every day, and if extra clothing and makeup were part of their lifestyle, it still is.

Many peope stuck at home are buying just out of boredom. Many are anticipating using the things in the near future when this is over.

@Blackcatmom ...I wear make up every day...we eat out, go to work, church occasionally and the mall...I have reordered several cosmetic items that I have used up and have purchased new clothes.

I am not living my life inside the 4 walls of my home

...I am 65 and dh is 80....we follow mandated rules and are living our life as best we can.

I wish people did not make comments like this. It's very denigrating to those who, for whatever reason, feel more comfortable not going out for nonessential purposes.

I go out every day and have since this all started. I volunteer to do Meals on Wheels twice a week. I do go to the grocery store, pharmacy, shopping, mostly at local stores now to help out our local economy. When the salons opened, I started going every six weeks to get my haircut and since restaurants in my area have reopened, I have eaten inside a few times. I mostly do takeout though, mainly because I don't like to eat alone in a restaurant.If you follow the CDC guidelines and most importantly, stay away from people as much as possible, practice good hygiene and nutrition, the risk is the same as if you stay home all the time. . Human beings are social animals. Increased consumption of alcohol, overeating, increased incidents of domestic violence, and divorce, depression and suicide are all effects of prolonged isolation. You can stay home and get sick anyway. You can't hide from a microbe.

Michigan is one of the few states to be so totally shut down for this long. I'm glad I live in a state to reopened months ago. I have been buying clothes because I have two part-time jobs, volunteer, shop for groceries, eat out occasionally, and go to church. I wear a mask and social distance. I am eagerly waiting for the vaccine.
