Need a Dishwasher

Need a recommendation for a new dishwasher. I don't want anything too complicated, just a basic stainless steel unit with a stainless tub. I've looked at so much on line that my head is spinning. I've seen those with WiFi, an interior light, one that the door pops open when the dishwasher is finished washing. I just want one that will wash dishes. Period!!!

I bought a mid-level Bosch three years ago. All I cared about:

1. Can it remove egg yolk and peanut butter?

2. Is it quiet?

I had to get a new one a few months back. Old one just quit working, we had it for several years. The old one was a whirlpool.

I ended up getting a kitchenaid. And it is nice, has the stainless steel outside and inside. My whirlpool's utensil door was in the door of the dishwasher. The new kitchenaid's utensil door is in the bottom of the dishwasher- now I can move it around but not in the door.

The new one doesn't hold as much in the bottom as the old one did. It does do a great job though and I didnt realize how loud my old one was. This one is very quiet.

I have a Bosch that we bought in 2005 and it is still going strong! Never a single problem with it either. My dishes are clean as a whistle and it is quiet.

If it ever dies I will be getting another Bosch.

kitchenaid for sure.

we have purchased two in the last 4 years and are very happy with them.......virtually no noise, great cleaning capabilities, lots of room, good cleaning choices, electronic buttons are hidden. very clean look to them.

I have a stainless steel Bosch I bought years ago and it still is perfect. i have bought other brands for years and withn a year they were done. Don't bother. Buying cheap isn't the way.

I have a builders grade GE that's original to my house built in 1984. I've had KitchenAids and Maytags but this is by far the best machine I've ever had. Its quiet and does a great job, dries thoroughly. I don't use it much these days since its just me and its easier to just wash my plate and fork but it has had some hard use.

I will always look for quiet and silverware in the door.

With Shadow (90 lb American Bulldog), no way do I want the door to pop open!

Bosch all the way. We've had ours for 14 years and never a problem. (Knock on wood). lol

One thing I never had on my "must" list but do during pandemic: must be American made so I can quickly get it repaired ( due to pandemic "lag" times for getting parts).

Am I the only person who never uses my dishwasher? It is just DH and I. We wash the dishes as we use them. They dry on a dish rack. Can not imagine having to fill up a dishwasher to run it. I would run out of dishes😄

I do not use mine as frequently as I did when my girls were at home.

I just do the few we have by hand.

Check to see how long it takes to run a cycle. The dishwasher at our lake house takes forever on the regular cycle. Thankfully it has a quick wash setting.

I think the simpler the better.

There are two of us and we use lots of cups and glasses, and we cook. But on days that we don't cook, the cereal bowls and snack plates and cups and glasses get wished just the same.

The dishes and glasses are sparkling clean, there are no dishes in the sink, and things are clean, dry and ready to be put up the next day. We run it every day full or not.

@bourgs4 sad to say, but even with Bosch, it’s luck of the draw although I do know more people who have good Bosch luck than bad.

Bosch is my recommendation too. Although, we are doing a kitchen remodel. The new appliances will be Whirlpool. I'm sad I couldn't get the Bosch in the "package." The old Bosch still works (10 years-old); it is now in the kitchen at my son's townhouse. If I don't like the new machine, a new Bosch may be in my kitchen in the near future. The Bosch is quiet and gets the dishes super clean and dries everything thoroughly.

I agree about Kitchenaid. I have had 2 in 40 years & they have been the best & I wouldn't have anything else. My latest one is 14 years old & still going strong. Also like the silverware try in the bottom rack & can be moved around.

Add another vote for Bosch. Best dishwasher I've had, incredibly quiet and I love the layout, very easy to use.

Another vote for Bosch.

We originally had a Maytag (on the recommendation of the retail salesman). Never again! The rinse aid dispenser stopped working after the first year and they could never figure out why, so told us to "just not use it". The stupid thing died before it was even 7 years old. So much for the ads with the poor Maytag repairman "the loneliest man on the planet", just waiting for something to break down!

I had Bosch, when I lived in England (for 20 years) and it was still going strong when I left. I replaced the lousy Maytag with a Bosch here; stainless steel tub, quiet and energy efficient. Still works perfectly and is over 13 years old now. If it dies, I'll buy another Bosch, no question.

(And I no longer listen to the salesmen; every appliance but one died within that seven-year span.) I also have a Bosch washing machine now: 12 years old.

I think you just have to go to the store and look at them. So many recommend Bosch but my DD bought one that was a total bust. There wasn't enough room on the bottom for taller things, and the machine did not dry the dishes. She didn't like it at all.

I bought a KitchenAid after checking out the amount of room for dishes on the bottom. It also has more "sprayers" throughout, especially one on the bottom that gets the lower level clean. Some machines only spray down from the top. I can also move the top tray up and down.

There are different models within different brands. I'd just go to Lowe's and look at the insides of them.
