Covid vaccine procedure question

Our health dept. suggests you swing your arm around during the 15 min wait after receiving the vaccine injection. Or so I heard. Anyone know why?

I read somewhere that this can help relieve the concentration at the injection site and move it through the body quicker. I have no idea if this is correct.

It also is supposed to help alleviate soreness in the injection arm.

The vaccine is injected into the deltoid muscle . Exercising the arm/ deltoid muscle may distribute it more quickly and promotes less muscle ache

Every person that I have talked to, that got the vaccine said their arm was sore after they received the vaccine. So make sense to try and move the vaccine along.

PapaWick and I received ours about 10 days ago. As we do with any injection, we rubbed/kneaded the injection site immediately. Then did lots of range of motion (lifting arm above head, side-to-side, behind back) for the rest of the day and even the next morning. We had absolutely no soreness. With the second injection, we will do the same BUT all bets are off with that one since most people have a strong immune response with the second (which is actually a very good sign).

Hubby and I got vaccine yesterday...his shoulder is a little sore...mine, nothing. none of the touted side effects either.....

even if your arm is sore for a few days, small price to pay

Got my yesterday and I have some slight soreness. Yes, I did some ROM exercises yesterday and this morning did a few sets of upper arm workouts with 10 pound weights. It's tender but obviously not bad enough to stop anything. At least not for me.

I don't know how true this is but when I had to get a tetanus shot after I fell and went to the ER with a few broken bones, the nurse told me that since I have well developed muscles from regular workouts then the arm will be less sore or not sore at all after a shot.

It is to make sure that people stay 6+ feet away from you. Still need to practice social distancing...

So good to see that more people are receiving the vaccine. Will try to remember the tips here if I should be able to get vaccine. I'm hoping I will qualify before my next birthday in December.

it makes sense to me that moving the arm would help move the vaccine in the body, but I have no real knowledge that’s true

as for reactions, I had a report from a husband and wife team just this week - she has had no negative reactions at all, he had a day of pain at the injection site with improvement since. I won’t know until tomorrow whether it’s dissipated totally.

The soreness I experienced for a day after my Covid vaccine this week was nothing compared to the Shingrix vaccine. I didn’t even take a Tylenol.

@wonderfulworld My husband and I got ours two days ago. Our arms were actually less sore than with the regular flu shot.

Now, I will say, I have heard from my medical friends that have had their second shot. They have told me that's when you will be feeling the more uncomfortable effects.

One of them said that among their medical group, they found that drinking a lot of fluids the day before your second shot will help, but, you are going to feel bad regardless.

I got my shot Thursday, through the health dept. They just had us sit in our cars for 15 minutes afterwards. They didn't tell us to swing our arms around. I talked on the phone and people watched.

I have a question for those who have gotten the vaccine. I understand that trying to get an appointment is a full-time job, but once you go for your appointment are you sitting in your car or standing in a line waiting for hours? I suppose it depends on the facility, but that's all you see on television.

I haven't gotten one, but my sister (in another state) did.

It took her a very long time to get an appointment, but when she went in she said it was all very organized and went easily, smoothly, and quickly. No waiting except for the 15 minutes afterwards. She got hers at the hospital she volunteers with.

So not everyplace is a mess.😉
