Sorting Your Stuff

I'm not sure if this is okay here - but in view of our recent decluttering topic - I thought some of you may be interestd in this .....

This morning I got an email for a webinar with the author of "Know Thyself: The Imperfectionist's Guide to Sorting Your Stuff."

Wasn't aware of the book you are suggestion; however, I find Marie Kondo's books on Tidying to be very good. She had several episodes on Netflix and her books are available at Amazon also.

I like whoever said start with your kitchen sink, keep that clean at all times. Well, I did, and then I quit. I was reading the Decluttering book by Dana someone and I lost it for a month. Think I better start over.

I think that's from the Flylady system. Shine your sink. I tried their system once, but it was way more structure than I needed or wanted. They kind of expected a person to design their whole day around cleaning. I do love some of their terms. C.H.A.O.S is Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome.

One thing I got from them is that any horizontal surface, left to its own devices will attract clutter. I call it my constant fight to clean off the "barnacles" from those clutter magnets in our house.

I liked FlyLady's system, particularly working in zones and in 15 minute increments. I quit following her when she cluttered my InBox with entirely too many Emails. I also became bored with her sales pitches for journals and purple dusters.

Peter Walsh is another good one to read and follow.

You can write a book on just about anything now-a-days. I'm going to write one titled "If Not Worn Or Used In A Year Toss It!"

It will be a 2 page booklet. Book cover & the first chapter will say the same thing. Chapter II title - And Don't Look Back

I started to read Marie Kondo’s book about tidying up. It basically started by tell me to throw almost everything out. Well duh, that is the hard part. I can organize once I only have the bare minimum. I stopped reading it.

@Mz iMac : Totally agree. Everyone has to find what works for them. I have read several books and looked on line for help. I have been on a declutter and reorganize spurt the last two weeks. My spaces and everything looks nothing like all the closets and pantry on line. Trying to do this without spending any money but repurpose whatever I have for storage. I have a very small hall pantry across from my kitchen. So far- I have taken everything out and put the expiration dates where it can be quickly seen. I have the lock n lock small pantry set purchased several years ago. Still trying to decide what else to do and how to rearrange everything. Due to the door size and shelf design not able to put a big over the door shelf/ rack system but able to put two wire baskets on the door. Still frustrating but determined to do something.

@Mz iMac a year timeframe with clothing isn't realistic, especially now. I've been wearing sweats, leggings and pj's since last March! And slippers are my primary footwear.
