Are You a Re-Reader?

Anybody besides me who would rather re-read an old favorite than read a new book that's just so-so? I thought of adding this thread when I read some of the replies to the thread about another book as good as The Thorn Birds. Do you have a list of books you enjoy reading again periodically? I'll have to think about some of the others, but one that comes to mind immediately is Leigh Brown's The Show Gypsies. It's one of the best love stories and best books about (horse) show jumping ever. It seems she only wrote the one book -- what a shame!

Never before the last 3 weeks... I got a series on the NOOK-- The Hunted by Jennifer Ryan.. I read all of them.. and loved them so much I am starting to re-read -- My kind of love story...

In all the years of reading I have saved very special books.. but never re-read them from cover to cover..

Very rarely. I've re-read Harry Potter and Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One because I loved them so much.

Yes, I found a book series called "Loon Lake Mysteries" by Victoria Houston and read them out of order. I liked them so much that I am in the process of going back and reading them in the proper sequence. They take place northern Wisconsin and many real towns that I've visited are mentioned.

Mostly not, as I very rarely keep a book (paper book vs E-books) once I've read it. That said, I have a collection of JD Robb books in my basement that I intend to re-read, then donate to my local library, as they don't own the entire collection.

I just reread Jane Eyre, which I read probably forty-plus years ago. I still like it. I think I may reread Peter Jenkins Walk Across America and Walk West too. I wish they were available on Kindle but not yet. Usually I don't reread a book though.

When I was a young girl, I was definitely a re-reader. NOW I barely have time to be a first time reader!

The only time I re-read a book was many years ago. I stopped mid-way through a book I was reading because I didn't like it. I tried re-reading it again when a friend (who gave me it as a gift) asked about it. I did eventually finish it but I abhorred it.

yes i am a re-reader,too! right now i am re-reading "forever amber" for the second time.

someone said it is like visiting old friends and places again that you really enjoy and i agree.

The only book I have read 3-4 times is 'Atlas Shrugged' by Ayn Rand. I first read it in college and it just stayed with me. I re-read it every few years, and I enjoy it just as much each time. In fact, time to pull it out again. Who is John Galt?

Yes, there are a few that I re-read, then I complain about not having enough time to read all the books on my reading list - LOL! Sometimes, though, it's a case of needing the comfort of something familiar. I re-read Gone With The Wind & The Stand every 3-4 years. All things considered, I don't re-read that much, though.

I'm constantly rereading. I've got tons of new books on my Kindle to read, but I find myself rereading older books instead of the new ones. A known good read is more fun for me than the potential in an unknown book.

Hey, gardenman, you sound like a kindred spirit! I even used to spend a lot of time in South Jersey for my job (Absecon area). Try reading Craig Johnson's Longmire Mysteries if you haven't run across them -- great writing about great characters and well worth adding to your rereading list; they're much more about the people than the mysteries.

Very, very seldom will I re-read a book. That said, I recently ordered (and received) the book "My Mother/Myself" by Nancy Friday.

That book is wonderful. Over the years (many years ago), I have recommended that book to many of friends and strangers. Whomever I spoken to that expresses a feeling of discontent with their Mother.

So, to sum up, I have only re-read a few books.

Don't want to beat this re-reading topic to death, but I'm in the middle of re-reading all of Allen Drury's political novel series (Advise and Consent, Shade of Difference, Capable of Honor, Preserve and Protect, Come Nineveh, Come Tyre, and Promise of Joy). I'm almost finished with Capable of Honor. Two things strike me about these books: the first is how well Drury writes -- he just grabs you from the outset and never lets go, and his characters are all vividly alive -- and the second is how well these books, written in the 60's, hold up all these years later. You might as well be reading headlines out of today's paper (which is kind of sad, considering how little has changed). I'm not a fan of books about politics in general, but if you're looking for a smashing good read with some meat on its bones, try Allen Drury.

I have read all 20 of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series ...... they were well written and funny that I read them again. Some I've read 3 times.

I find that I get more out of it the second time because things are missed the first time.

For anyone who reads the Stephanie Plum books ..... Morelli or Ranger?

No, I don't re-read. I usually remember too much from the first go-round, so even if I want to read something again, I lose interest within a couple of chapters.
