New York, NY, December17, 2020 –Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) today released the following statement to address public commentsthatallege there are issues in the production and distribution of the company’s COVID-19 vaccine:

“Pfizer is not having any production issues with our COVID-19 vaccine, and no shipments containing the vaccine are on hold or delayed.

This week, we successfully shipped all 2.9 million doses that we were asked to ship by the U.S. Government to the locations specified by them. We have millions more doses sitting in our warehouse but, as of now, we have not received any shipment instructions for additional doses.

I don't understand why people post PR. It's untrustworthy.

Next up is Moderna. Google "NPR Catalent Moderna" for more on the manufacturing side of Moderna, which has never brought anything to market so it has to outsource production.

@suzyQ3, states have been complaining of shortages and shipping delays which they are blaming on Pfizer production problems so Pfizer released the linked statement.

From what I understand, Pfizer has not been given instructions or directions to ship to states.

I could be mistaken about that though.

......In Washington, D.C., two senior administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal planning said states will receive their full allocations, but misunderstandings about vaccine supply and changes to the delivery schedule may be creating confusion.

One official said the initial numbers of available doses that were provided to states were projections based on information from the manufacturers, not fixed allocations. Some state officials may have misunderstood that, the official said.

The two officials also said that changes the federal government made to the delivery schedule, at the request of governors, may be contributing to a mistaken impression that fewer doses are coming. The key change involves spacing out delivery of states’ weekly allocations over several days to make distribution more manageable. “They will get their weekly allocation, it just won’t come to them on one day,” one official said.

Pfizer made it clear that as far as production goes, nothing has changed. “Pfizer has not had any production issues with our COVID-19 vaccine, and no shipments containing the vaccine are on hold or delayed,” spokesman Eamonn Nolan said in an email. “We are continuing to dispatch our orders to the locations specified by the U.S. government.”

The company said in a written statement that this week it “successfully shipped all 2.9 million doses that we were asked to ship by the U.S. Government to the locations specified by them. We have millions more doses sitting in our warehouse but, as of now, we have not received any shipment instructions for additional doses.”

The senior administration officials said Pfizer’s statement about doses awaiting shipping instructions, while technically accurate, conveniently omits the explanation: It was planned that way.

The federal officials said Pfizer committed to provide 6.4 million doses of its vaccine in the first week after approval. But the federal Operation Warp Speed had already planned to distribute only 2.9 million of those doses right away. Another 2.9 million were to be held at Pfizer’s warehouse to guarantee that individuals vaccinated the first week would be able to get their second shot later to make protection fully effective. Finally, the government is holding an additional 500,000 doses as a reserve against unforeseen problems.

Pfizer said it remains confident it can deliver up to 50 million doses globally this year and up to 1.3 billion doses in 2021.

Johnson & Johnson's vaccine ... yet to be approved will only be "1 shot" not two. This would be my choice but I wonder if this amount of forced protein production would cause potentially more negative reactions?

I'm certainly no cheerleader for the pharma industry. In fact, my career in the industry ended when Pfizer acquired the company that I worked for and I declined to relocate. However; in this case, I believe that Pfizer is being truthful.

Pfizer is using the same chain that they use to deliver influenza vaccine every year. If it ain’t broken don’t fix it. However, each state had to submit a plan as to where the vaccine was to go and how many doses. In New Jersey, we have an intelligent and well informed Gov. He has met with HHS early on and a plan was submitted and approved. Our doses are either here or on the way on time. If a state does not get their vaccines in a timely manner it’s poor planning or poorly informed Governors or Health officials who are at fault. The blame, for a change, is not at the federal level. Operation Warp Speed which was a venture between the government and private sector are doing an excellent job. Our Governor has kept us abreast of the vaccine information from day 1. Pfizer did not take federal funding for vaccine development or delivery, only supplies.

Well we've got lots of people - including the Gates, NYT, NPR etc. etc. insisting that it is racist to give any precdence for the vaccine to the US - despite our contributing billions to ensure its rapid development.

It is also interesting to see the controversy now over who should receive the vaccine first - even in the US. Very divisive.
