Tearing down Nordstrom store

They have been closed for a year. Now the plan is to tear it down because the floor plan was designed just for Nordstrom and can't be modified. Odd.

@traveler My Dillard's is closing the end of the year. The shopping center (Paradise Valley) is being converted into "multi-purpose"........including condo's or maybe apartment buildings.

@traveler Maybe not odd. I say that because years ago when the Burdines at one end of the huge mall near me went out of business, Nordstrom bought their part of the mall and demolished it and built their own big store. Maybe they build to specifications too different from other retail to be easy to modify?? Just a thought.

Coulda been contained like Ebola. But nope. And now it is what it is. And a disturbing number of people are happy for it to continue to spread and ruin more and more businesses and lives.

The big mall near me did a big risk. They converted the Sears building in to Lidi Supermarket. That's right. A supermarket in the middle of a high end mall. I've been there twice. Both times it seemed busy. So I guess it's working. It's been 10 months and they're still there. I'm happy Nordstrom is still around.

Mall's were already dying a slow death before Covid.

Covid just hastened that death.

I knew Dillards was closing but didn't know that PV mall is changing to multi-use. The mall has been struggling for awhile.

Ebola was contained because an exchange of bodily fluid is necessary for transmission. One could sit in a room with an Ebola infected person for 24 hours and as long as you did not touch the person or have direct contact with their bodily fluids, you would not catch Ebola. Not so with Covid. If you spent 24 hours in a room with a person who was infected with Covid since it is a respiratory disease spread through droplets you would likely become infected. Completely different illnesses and transmission processes.

Someone in planning/zoning here said there is a lot going on right now.

All pharmacies want a drive thru now.

A grocery that has some land out back is looking into separate bays to back into for pickup from a locker. That pickup option could evolve into basically a warehouse. I like it, no contact.
