Primer Recommendations Please!

Hello all!

I'm looking for a new makeup primer for 63 year old skin, very oily t-zone, some wrinkles (prefer to call them "battle scars"), sensitive skin, large pores on nose. I love the consistency of Benefit Cosmetics "Porefessional", but the parabens in that product sends my sensitive skin into an ugly breakout.

Do you use a makeup now? Liquid - ?

If you do, why do you need a primer? Just go with your regular makeup - liquid or dry.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is outstanding and feels so smooth! It makes a great base before makeup.

I have your exact same type of skin & I have tried some primers, but never found one that did anything for my skin except break it out.

I do best with liquid foundation (Mac Studio Fix Fluid, Tarte Tinted Treatment BB Primer (It is a nice light weight foundation), Becca Ever Matte Shine Proof (More coverage & the most matte foundation that I have ever used.) or Clinique Even Better Glow Cream (Fancy name, but again, just a light weight foundation).

Liquid foundation controls my oil & none of these break me out.

I don't wear foundation. Since I live in Myrtle Beach where the humidity is crazy, it just melts right off.

I am close to your age and have the same skin concerns. I usually use two primers. My favorite for areas with really large pores is the Cover FX Blurring Primer. For the rest of my face, I'm not as picky. My favorites are the Becca Skin Love Brighten & Blur Primer and No7 Airbrush Pore Minimizing Primer. I also like the Cover FX Gripping Primer and the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Primer.

I think there are lots of primers that help your makeup last longer. It's much more difficult to find one that truly blurs your pores after you apply makeup than one that helps your makeup last longer. The Benefit one you mentioned is my second favorite for covering pores (luckily it doesn't cause breakouts for me) but the Cover FX is the best I've found.

I've also found that if any of my large pores are still showing after applying primer and foundation that I can sometimes "fill" them in if I brush a small concealer brush over them. Good luck! It's really tough dealing with large pores on top of everything else we deal with as older women with sensitive skin.

I have really liked the Diane Young Invisible Fountain of Youth for Pores. I like many of her products. Sorry she is no longer presenting on QVC.

my go to primer is one of the OG primers......smashbox photo finish primer. it comes in a gel form OR a lightweight spray form. i love and use both. i have mostly oily skin and it works well for me.

@Sunset Beach Fan If you don't wear foundation why do you need a primer? It's to help your foundation apply better. You might want to use a tinted sunscreen. Otherwise moisturizer is all you need.

I like e.l.f.'s Poreless Putty Primer ($8) in the regular version, they make three. It has no parabens and is cruelty free. That primer is top-rated and has been compared to Tatcha's Silk Canvas Balm ($50).

I love Hourglass, but it is pricey, and I also love The Ordinary's primer, it is so good and it is under 10.00! I am 61 with combo/sensitive skin.....

I use many primers ,even if I haven't used foundation since March. My favorites are Tweak and Tatcha.

I tried many eye primers.The best for me are Clinique and Thrive. They give luminosity to my eyes.

I use eye primer also before the IT brow powder.
