We’re still stuck

Eta dumped so much water that our block is still flooded out in the street. We can't drive out of our house. The water has pooled in the center of the block. It just sits there without receding. The water was like this all over both Dade and Broward counties in the first two days after Eta but in many places the water has receded.
Our drainage system relies on a series of components,( too complicated to describe briefly), to work but it's so overloaded with water that it can't. I've called the related agencies but for now WE'RE STUCK.

Yes, and the largest amount dumped was right over us.

Sounds dreadful, and unsafe. Mindy - try not to get overwhelmed.

For your safety please be very careful, water is a monster when it comes to damage, as are all of momma nature's strengths - man and beast are no match.

I guess you are frustrated and bored, maybe even angry at the lack of resources for aid.

Who could blame you - I know I'd be!

Please be patient and safe, I enjoy your board comments and want them around for a DANG LONG TIME to come.

At least the phone and Internet are working so you are not totally isolated. Is this an ongoing occurrence on your block for major storms?

There are some streets in NJ near the shore that have the same problem, so lots of people are building their houses on higher stilts.

Maybe you should invest in a little motorboat!

My CPA informed me that the Honduras has been hit very hard . I know that one things that they have been effected , but there are those that have suffered more . Donations would be appreciated for those that have truly suffered in other countries . Don't get me wrong I feel for those who have suffered for what ever reason.

@Mindy D I hear ya regarding the flooding. Parts of my community look like houses are little islands; it's ridiculous how the sewer and drains were designed KNOWING that this kind of weather occurs in this area. Just....why?

We're looking at streams/rivers overflowing for the next 48 hours and warnings are all over the place. My son has to cross one and when he returns tonight from work, will not be going in tomorrow. Our local grocery stores all closed at 8pm due to the flooding/cresting. No loss of power so far.

DH is supposed to go to his office on the bay. He is going in 4 hours later but still....not sure if he'll even attempt it.

Meh. We're pretty much flooded in on my island as well. The last 48 hours have been an adventure, to say the least. While it was light outside, I sat in my living room and watched the storm unfold in the Gulf. Fortunately, we never lost power (yay!) but a number of streets are underwater. By Saturday it should all recede. Until then, I'll just walk where I need to go and be extremely happy that I'm merely inconvenienced. It's part of life in Florida.

Yep, this monster is real. Caught on camera during Hurricane Eta in Naples.

While Eta’s strong winds and rain pushed most people indoors, it drew out an alligator that took a stroll along a Naples golf course. A now-viral set of photos and video shows the massive gator walking toward the water, his thick tail dragging behind.

I think his brother was in my yard (Tampa) this morning😳😳

The retention ponds are full luckily are streets are not! The wildlife officer was in our area today warning gators are out in full force. I asked him if they'd be trapping them -- not unless they're a "nuisance"...yikes scared the h##l out of me!!

I live on golf course w/woods behind and see them all the time. I would think the neighbors would be scared having a gator that size "cruising" their neighborhood 😳.

It's funny to see an alligator standing like that. I always imagine them with short legs and their bellies against the ground.
