"The Purina Beyond Nature’s Protein line, which launches in Switzerland this month, will be available in two variations - one using chicken, fava beans and protein from black soldier fly larvae, and one using chicken, pig’s liver and millet.

Both will be available for dogs and cats at Swiss retailer Coop, which also sells insect-based snacks and burgers for human consumption. Rollouts in more markets are planned starting next year, Meunier said."

This is only one of the reasons that I do not give my fur baby dog food .... I cook her human food & I know exactly what is in it .... if I can’t eat it I would never give it to her 🐶

As if this is news that dog food isn't the wonderful, healthy nourishment the commercials on tv want you to believe. It is riddled with unwanted, rancid kr@p. Feed as close to fresh as you can for the sake of your pet.

Raw is best!

I agree add fresh to your kibble, for your dog,but have saying that ,i feed good quality kibble ,fresh proteins, veggies ,fruit ,supplements, and cancer still takes them.

As disgusting as this seems to us, dogs won't know the difference and many insects are quite nutritious. Just remember the next time any of you eat crab legs, shrimp or lobster, you are eating animals from a group related insects: arthropods. They may be different families (insectidae , crustacians) but they are related. They even look like giant bugs.

People are not dogs. Dogs are not people. Shocking.

But dogs have lots of needs that are very different from ours. And a lot of dogs today don't get to be dogs. They are expected to be little people, and to me that is disrespecting dogs for the wonderful creatures they are.

Insect eating does sound gross, but humans are already eating them....on purpose.

When I was in Asia, I saw people buying and eating fried crickets. They popped them into their mouths like potato chips. I also saw them eating small cooked snakes on a stick. I didn't try anything like that, but I can tell you they sure smelled good.

In America we use insects for human food too. Most of our red food coloring comes from insects and has for hundreds of years.

A few countries in Europe have insect farms that grows insects for human food. They are a great source of protein.

Your dog or cat probably eats insects already. I know mine do. It's gross because we are conditioned to beleive insects are gross. if we were brought up eating them, we wouldn't bat an eye just like we do with red food coloring.

@Carmie , As I said in my comment above, anyone who eats crustaceans (lobster, crabs or shrimp) is eating bugs. Delicious bugs. One of the "Deadliest Catch" captains, Sig Hansen, even frequently refers to his catch as "bugs". They're branches of the same family: arthropods.

My dog hunts and eats mole crickets and chickweed!

He is healthy! Usually won't eat what I am eating!
