I went to Rite-Aid to get it, and it was free (through insurance).

After filling out the paperwork, and waiting around for what seemed like forever, I was finally called back.

I was asked if I felt well, had any cough or loss of taste, yes, I feel well, and no loss of taste) and had my temperature taken with a digital forehead scanner.

I was asked how everything was going, and I said, "Fine, except that at this point, I expect to see pterodactyls flying"

"Oh?" was her response .

"Yeah, because it's been such a crazy year."

I would've thought that the joke was implied .

Guess not.

She gave me my shot, and I didn't even feel it, then I was on my way.

The last time that I had the flu was January 31, 2003.

I remember that because I remember my temperature rising, feeling awful, and putting on sweats, and climbing in to my bed, and cranking my electric blanket and electric mattress pad to 10, after taking some Nyquil.

I was determined to sweat that bug out of me.

Some time in the night, my fever broke, and next morning, I shuffled out to the living room and turned on the news, only to learn that the Space Shuttle Columbia had exploded upon re-entry.

So that's how I remember when I last had the flu

Next month, shingles shot.

I am not going to get shingles.

Nope.

Don't want it, because I hear that they are painful, and I'm a wuss when it comes to pain.

I cry if I have split-ends, I don't even want to know how painful shingles are!

I spent the entire weekend in bed and on Monday was still so sick I took a cab to my doctor. I indeed testeted positive for Influenza. It took 5 more days before I felt somewhat normal. For the next 3 weeks I had a recurring cough and shortness of breath- both symptoms my doctor said were often the case with the Flu. I lost 10 pounds - gained 5 back- never regained the other 5.

YES, I got a Flu shot 2 weeks ago! Never Again!

My doctor told me that I was not old enough for the shot. (sigh) However, a few days ago I saw a commercial for some type of shingle shot and they mentioned if you are in your 50's ask your doctor for it. The next time I have to go for an in person visit I am going to request it again.

Several years ago, I had a co-worker in the office who was in her 60's and she had been out for about a week or so, and I guess she came back to work too soon. She was sitting at her desk crying she was in so much pain.

No... My doctor told me that I was not old enough for the shot yet. (sigh) However, a few days ago I saw a commercial for some type of single shot and they mentioned if you are in your 50's ask your doctor for it. The next time I have to go for an in person visit I am going to request it again.

Several years ago, I had a co-worker in the office who was in her 60's and she had been out for about a week or so, and I guess she came back to work too soon. She was sitting at her desk crying she was in so much pain.

No... That's a hard pass for me.

I forgot to add that I received my flu shot in early September.

You don't have to wait until you go to your Doctor's office to get this shot - go to any pharmacy and if they have it on hand you can get it as part of your preventive care (Walmart, Walgreen's, CVS, etc). I got my first shot at Walgreen's and then had to go to Walmart to get the second shot as it can be hard to find sometimes as it sells out and there can be a wait list.

I promised myself that if I could get through this bout of sickness, that I would get the shot every year moving forward. I obviously recovered, but I have made myself get the shot every year during the months of September/October.

Everyone is different I have minimal to no side effects, usually my arm is stiff and sore at the injection site for a few days, and sometimes I feel as if I am getting a cold for a few days but it passes. They always say that you cannot get sick from the shot since it's a dead virus but that has been my experience. This past shot that I received last month, I had absolutely no side effects.

I also had a flu shot today. I asked about the shingles vaccine and the pharmacist said to come back in 2 weeks.

FYI...I had shingles in May and got extremely ill. I contracted iritis and had a retinal bleed because they traveled from my forehead to my eye. They also went to my scalp. I was hospitalized at one point. I now have nerve damage and post herpetic neuralgia. If I could just save one person from suffering what I did, please, please get a Shingles vaccine.
