Tip Jars

During the years, I have seen those pesky tip jars in multiple locations. Yesterday, though, gave me pause.

I was picking up a prescription at a pharmacy located in a large grocery store chain. There on the counter, where you pay, sat a very large jar marked "tips."

Seriously, at the pharmacy now? Is this a new thing to tip the pharmacist/assistant for putting together your meds and the sale transaction??????

The tip jars have become out of hand for just simply doing the job your getting paid to do. I work in an office and go over and above at times.. I don’t get tips for that from my boss. Lol

I've never seen a tip jar at a pharmacy. That doesn't seem like an appropriate place for a tip jar.

Anyway, people get all up in arms about tipping. It's completely voluntary.

I wonder if this wasn't a tip jar, but it was a charity collection jar?

I totally agree that the tip jar has gotten out of hand. Three weeks ago,at my son's rather fancy wedding we noticed a tip jar at the open bar.

When my son & DIL booked the event they specifically said that they will tip generously after the event & didn't want a tip jar anywhere in sight.They had it removed.

They put it there because some people will be dumb enough to think they are really supposed to leave a tip. Can’t fix stupid...

@Bri369 No, it was a clear jar with a white sign in black marker, "TIPS.'

I would have asked about it. I don't think tipping the pharmacist is appropriate.

Yes considering people are usually already giving up an arm and a leg there.

@NicksmomESQ I definitely would not be happy that there was a tip jar at the bar when it was precisely stated that they did not want one.

It is a bit awkward for the wedding guests.

A tip jar in a pharmacy would be easy to ignore, and ignore it I would do. I'd also express my opinion of it to the pharmacist.

tip jars dont bother me.....i know that if i wish to leave one i can and if i dont wish to then i dont. it is as simple as that.

have not seen tip jars at the pharmacies we use, but one of the pharmacies we use does deliver and we do give the driver a tip if we see him.

i have seen tip jars at weddings, parties, and events where there is an open bar. i always make sure to carry a lot of 1's with me. sometimes if there is NOT a tip jar i do still hand them a couple of dollars.

@Mersha I've never seen a tip jar anywhere in the pharmacy I use, but if one were to appear, I'd ignore it. The only jars into which I put a tip are those where I would have tipped if I were sitting at a table to eat or drink.

I really don't care if they ask - I know how to say no in many different ways, but ignoring those tip jars is really the easiest no of all.

I would be taking my Prescriptions elsewhere. Even in my small town there are four Pharmacies to pick from.

When I ordered something online last week at check out there was a space to leave a tip. First time I have ever seen that. I ignored it and only paid for what I was ordering.

I never put $$ in "tip jars." In my neck of the woods, by weeks end I'll see the business on the local news who is showing the video security cam of someone stealing the "tip jar" during business hours. ~~I don't support thieves.~~

My friend and I eat lunch out sometimes. We always tip 20%.

The only other tip I give is when I go to Paneras. The amount I can pick is $1, 2 or 3$. I often pick the 3$ because I assume it goes to the people behind the counter making the food. I don't mind tiping them. It's all voluntary. My friend opts to not tip them.

I'd put a note in there: Here's a tip. You are not a waitress. You earn a regular wage. Tell your boss you need a raise, not me. (Okay, imaginary extra-gutsy me with lots of time on her hands, would do this.)

In a coffee shop etc I'm fine with tip jars. If nothing else, it's a good way to get rid of my extra change and a few dollar bills when paying cash. But they are meant not for other highly skilled professions that pay relatively well.

Amazing. Especially since any grocery store by us the employees are not allowed to accept tips. Some employee probably stuck it there with nobody knowing about it. Your store probably has a FB page. I would ask about it on there and hear what they have to say. A simple oh my gosh, when did guys start wanting us to tip the pharmacy staff? Just in general conversation on my city's FB page if somebody mentions they were at X store today and the service was bad the store is all over it.
