Fred is one of the fawns I've watched grow. I recognize him because of the scar on his head. He's sure growing! The first 2 pics are him.

Loving Fred the Fawn!

I understand that most fawns are delicately built, but I remembered my Uncle Fred when I read about your fawn today. Uncle Fred was, comparatively speaking, the smallest and most diminuitively built of all my maternal grandma's children.

The funny thing is that he was emotionally closest with his brother who played two games for the Detroit Lions during the 1942 season. My poor Uncle Tom's professional football career was cut short when he was drafted into the Army during World War II.

The Texas deer are unbelievably tiny, especially when compared to the big mule deer or even white tails. You don't realize how small they are until you see them in person.

Fred is a cutie and I am sure it gave you much enjoyment to watch him grow Many of us do not have the chance to witness an animal in the wild mature. I think it is such a gift from nature to have that opportunity. Thanks for our daily nature trip!!

@Kachina624 having lived in Missouri most of my life, and living 14 years in Wisconsin before retiring to Texas, I agree that Texas deer are smaller.

@MamaWick Fred the fawn is rather dapper! It is amazing to watch nature at its best and be on the sidelines to enjoy the gentleness of it all. Has Buckley shown back up?

Archery season has opened in Mississippi and I hope he has not become a statistic.

@Boomernichols. Buckley hasn't been around for weeks, but neither have many of the other bucks. Rut will be starting soon, and I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

All deer are so cute no matter what size they are. Here in Colorado they get quite large. If you hit one in your car then the damages to the car, and the poor deer, are shocking.

When we lived in Vermont, a deer shot out on the roadway in the dark, totalled our brand new car and both the car and deer were a total loss.

A very scary, yet sad event.

When my family first moved here we went on a road trip up to the mountains. As we were headed up the road I saw the biggest deer in my life and I thought wow they sure have big deer here in Colorado! Turned out that was a bull elk...LOL! I had never seen one before that moment. He was so beautiful.
