Baby shower doubts...

I am invited to an indoor baby shower in October. Not sure how many people. I know there are social distancing and mask requirements in place but I am not comfortable going to a function where I will only know my sister and the MTB. I am 67 and have been very cautious about my outing to avoid Covid. My sister understands( it is her step daughter-in-law) and said it's ok with her if I do not attend. I am not close with the MTB I would only go cause it is my sister's stepson/wife. Am I being too cautious?

You won't enjoy yourself if you don't free comfortable. Send a nice gift, that will be fine.

No, you are using common sense. Why take such a risk? I would hope that others also decline to attend if they are over 60 or have any health conditon.

Send a card and a gift card for something, or a small gift plus your regrets.

I don't understand why people can't do virtual showers at a time like this. Saves the anxiety that the guests probably feel over whether or not to attend.

@bargainsgirl If you are uncomfortable, don't go. And, you are not being too cautious! Send a nice present - you can order something on Amazon and even have sent directly to the recipient (unless it's a surprise). The showers I've been invited to have all been outside; but even so, the invitations have specified no need to attend if you are uncomfortable.

They would probably be more nervous with you physically there. They would want to take extra care to arrange things and protect you at your age. I agree send a great gift and your love.

We all have our own level of comfort with all the Covid stuff that is going on. Every person has to decide for themselves where they are willing to go and not go. I think if you don't feel comfortable going then you shouldn't. You can always just send a card with a present.

I don't think I would go. We have been invited to a wedding as well and the shower in December. If I go to the wedding, it will only be because it is outside and we will wear our masks and socially distiance.

I'm kind of feeling like its in bad taste to have an event in the middle of a pandemic, when I know good and well some people wil feel obligated to attend. These are just my thoughts at the moment. If I attend some event, get sick and have to be in the hospital for weeks who will end up paying for that? Its not gonna be the hosts of the shower or the bride and groom.

I have a friend who spent almost 4 weeks in the hospital. Now he is in rehab.

Under the circumstances, I don't understand why you'd even consider going. I'd say, no, and not give it another thought.

I do not understand why any pregnant woman would put herself in a party with people who might be getting the virus. Does anyone use common sense anymore? And no, if I were you I would not go. Send a gift when the baby is born. My friend is in icu with the virus, extremely sick. Why would you put yourself In harm's way for a baby shower?

@bargainsgirl If you have to ask, then you have doubts. Your absence won't be an issue for the MTB.

Send a gift with sincere best wishes, if you choose, and relax.

My niece is supposed to be baptizing her son next month and if it's the same as it was for her daughter we won't be going to the church even if the numbers are limited. They do 6 at a time and that's too many people for us to be comfortable.

NO WAY ARE YOU TOO CAUTIOUS

With this virus not going away and flu season approaching I think you have been very cautious in the past so why not continue.

I am surprised that any one would want to throw a baby shower and maybe put the mother to be and others at risk.Just my opinion.

Think being in the same age group (a little older) that you are, would want me to mail a nice gift or check to your sister as she understands already your feelings and have her give your gift at the shower from you .

You have been protecting yourself so far just feel there will be plenty of time to visit when this is all over and it is safe for gatherings for all of us again.
