Hi everyone, I have a question about pancreatitis and wondered if anyone can give me an answer.

An old friend just died from pancreatitis. He was 62 years old and a long time heavy drinker (alcohol). Last month he went to the emergency room in pain, was put in ICU and died a week later from multiple organ failure due to pancreatitis.

He lived in another state so I only saw several times a year. When I last saw him he appeared sober and told me that he had been sober for a few years. I was very close to him and was for the past few years. When I talked to him on the phone he always seemed sober.

When I heard he passed from pancreatitis I assumed it was from drinking years ago but several friends have told me that he must have been drinking recently when he had the pancreatitis attack. I did talk to him 2 days before he went in the hospital and he seemed sober then.

Does anyone know if a person has to be CURRENTLY drinking to have a pancreatitis attack or can they be sober for a year or more and still have a pancreatitis attack?????

He was going to AA meetings all these years.

butterfly
